Season 10 Ratings Thread

Now, that doesn't make any sense to me  since there were no football delays and I personally thought it was a much better episode than the last.

Next Sunday is the special Halloween 'vampire' episode, so hopefully, ratings will go up...due to--spookiness?

Actually there was an 18 minute delay in some major Eastern time zone markets. Detroit was late and since the raters said several major markets, I expect others were too.

Second, this was a MUCH better episode than the last, but I expect that some casual viewers were turned off by the last and some regulars were turned off by the references to Memmo and the Mala Noche. Unfortunate, because both were handled extremely well, IMO.

Also we got our Calleigh back in spades!!!

Yeah, I think people avoided watching it because they thought it would be too centered around H mourning his deceased wife and talking to her killer and the Mala Noche. I admit, I taped the ep and watched it later because I figured I'd want to fast forward through some scenes. Turns out, I only fast forwarded through the first few minutes until the lady and her hubby got in their cars. It was a much better episode than I thought it would be. And to me a lot less boring than the episode that came before it. BTW, "the taunter" is kind of weird name for a serial killer.

That wasn't the best night for tv shows in general. Desperate Housewives had even worse ratings than before. Maybe it just was one of those nights, plus lack of Natalia and too much Memmo, the storyline most people is very tired of.

I was tired of the Memmo storyline until this last episode. Now I'm looking forward to seeing him back again. I think the writers did a great job of moving on from the same old "You-killed-my-wife" piss and moan and developing Memmo into a more complex character. I actually enjoyed seeing him and Horatio together. One thing that puzzled me, though, is that Horatio seems to be almost too friendly towards him considering the circumstances... and now Memmo wants forgiveness??

I wouldn't say that Horatio was almost too friendly. He was trying to save the life of a hard working law enforcement officer who obviously believed in the same "to service and protect" philosophy that he does. He didn't want to deal with Memmo, but played the back and forth cat and mouse game with him so as to save a life.

If you watch them is several scenes, especially for body language and expression, you will see that Horatio is not happy in many of the situations and also see that, at times Memmo isn't. It reminds me of Clavo Cruz, in the way they seem to be dancing around each other, each looking for their personal prize. Horatio -- life saving information. Memmo -- trying to best Horatio. The best scene for this was the one with the steak. When Horatio leaves with the information he needs and Memmo, violently knocks the steak off the table.

Horatio certainly wasn't enjoying being there with him, but I do think he was surprisingly calm and controlled given the fact that he was facing a cold-blooded killer who murdered his wife.

This might sound stupid. I should probably understand how the US ratings system works by now. But here in the UK I've never heard any talk about key demographics being important. They might be. I've just never heard about it . The bbc definately don't care for them because they don't even do asvertising. My questions are.. What's considered good for a Sunday night? I exclude sport because I feel it's a given that they will get high ratings. Secondly how do the even calculate demographics?

Without going into too much detail, 2.0 is in cancellation area. Expectations are lower than in previous seasons; however, I am sure CBS expects to see at least high 2's and low 3's to survive. This episode was delayed 30 minutes and ran into the 11:00 pm hour which is outside prime time. I am not sure how any show would do well with this schedule. I bet if they put NCIS, CBS's highest rated drama, in this timeslot it would also do poorly. Very frustrating!

Every TV viewing household in the US doesn't have a Nielsen box, so not everyone is getting counted. To put it bluntly, 10 million is good; 20 million is excellent, for these times. If Miami pulled these kind of ratings every week, it wouldn't be a problem whether or not it would get picked up for another season. With it now airing on Sunday nights, while we're still in the middle of football season doesn't help, because of constant delays. I think CBS has aired it on time only once this season. It's up to the fans at this point--if they don't stick with us, we're doomed. :(

Anything a 2.0 or below (that's not on Friday or Saturday) is nearing the cancellation range. That being said there are other factors that decide whether or not a show is renewed...syndication, how much the show costs to produce, etc.

Anyways, "By The Book" got adjusted up to a 2.2 in the 18-49 demographic.
