Schreiber: “I Like Him A Lot; I Love Him.”

CSI Files

Captain
Actor Liev Schreiber recently sat down with Julie Chen of CBS’s The Early Show to discuss what it’s like working on the top-rated CSI. Schreiber is playing the role of Michael Keppler, who has stepped in to cover for Gil Grissom (played by William Petersen) during Grissom’s teaching sabbatical.

Schreiber’s character, Michael Keppler, is a crime scene investigator from Baltimore. He’s a seasoned investigator with a strong reputation but has some issues. “I like him a lot; I love him,” Schreiber says. “He’s an East Coast cop – East Coast CSI who comes to Las Vegas with a considerable amount of baggage looking to make a new start and the question is, over this period of time with the Las Vegas lab, is he going to be able to get out (from) underneath all that baggage? And that’s what we work out in the show.”

Shreiber was blown away by the pace at which everyone works on CSI. To him, it was as if they make half a feature film in one week, while it takes movie production crews three months to make a film. “It’s incredibly intimidating but what’s amazing (is) the speed with which they work,” he says. “The production quality is incredible. … The big element is speed, which turns out is something I enjoy. With most films, you know as an actor, you spend a lot of time sitting on your butt, but not here.”

“What’s cool about the show and what the audience likes is that they are solving the crimes along with you,” he says. “For me as a fan, one of the things I love is all the forensic science so the props and all of these machines and all of this stuff you have to learn to use while doing the show is essential.”

YAY LIEV! :) He sounds like he's really enjoying himself. I'm looking forward to his story arc, temporary though it may be.

At first, the first few moments of "Sweet Jane" had me ponder about his performance. But once her broke in the character I felt great about him. Glad he's having a great time! :)

I'm glad that Liev is enjoying himself playing this character. Some people have been terrible about his character, but I'm glad he's having a great time :D
