Miami, PD
Horatio: *takes off shades* Where'd PD find her?
Yelina: A bus stop in Frank County.
Horatio: You page Eric?
Yelina: I did. He's on his way. I have a nurse coming in as well to look her over.
Horatio: Okay thank you ma'am. *walks into interrogation room*
Interrogation room
Horatio: *sits down*
Alena: *staring at table, tear rolls down her cheek*
Horatio: Alena?
Alena: *looks at Horatio*
Horatio: *smirks* How are you sweetheart?
Alena: *sniffs*
Horatio: Your dad's going to be here soon. But I'd like to ask you a few questions first, would that be alright?
Alena: *nods*
Horatio: Okay. We've all been looking for you for some time now. Do you know where you were before the bus station?
Alena: *shakes head*
Horatio: The man who took you, do you know his name?
Alena: *nods* Ricky.
Horatio: Did anyone else talk to you, or take you anywhere?
Alena: *nods*
Horatio: Who?
Alena: It was a girl.
Horatio: And where did the girl take you?
Alena: The bus stop.
Horatio: Do you know her name?
Alena: *nods* Her name's Maxine.
Horatio: *tilts head* ...Maxine. Um...
Alena: Am I in trouble?
Horatio: *smiles* No sweetheart you're not in trouble. You're just fine. I'll tell you what, I...Will be right back. Okay?
Alena: *nods*
Horatio: Okay sit tight. *leaves*
Alena: *lowers head*
DNA lab
Horatio: *walks over* Valera.
Valera: Lieutenant, did you need something?
Horatio: As a matter of fact I do. Alena Delko was found today at a bus stop.
Valera: Oh well that's good news right?
Horatio: It is...It is good news, tell me something. Where were you yesterday?
Valera: *shakes head* I don't know what you mean. I was here.
Horatio: Well I need to be sure. IAB has a close eye on the lab right now.
Valera: I came into work at around eight and left at seven pm.
Horatio: Where were you all week?
Valera: My schedule has been the same all week. What's going on?
Horatio: Well here's the problem. Alena identified a woman named Maxine who dropped her off at the bus stop and Stetler said that he didn't have Alena yesterday.
Valera: There are a lot of people named Maxine.
Horatio: Yes but only one that works in the lab.
Valera: What are you implying Lieutenant? That I kidnapped her?
Horatio: No. Maybe Stetler paid you off to take her somewhere.
Valera: ...
Horatio: Valera, now would be a good time to tell the truth.
Valera: ...He said he'd pay me 50 grand to take her to the bus station. Nothing more. I didn't even take the money I just wanted her to be safe. You have got to believe me, I put her there to be found. Little kids alone at the bus station puts up red flags, y'know?
Horatio: *shifts positions* I understand.
Valera: I know I should have said something but I didn't want to look guilty. I had nothing to do with her kidnapping. Stetler just came in here and told me what to do. He's my superior. He didn't even offer the money until I said I'd bring her here. I swear I didn't take the money.
Horatio: *nods* Unfortunately it doesn't look good.
Valera: Am I going to be fired?
Horatio: No, that's not what's going to happen. I'll handle it.
Valera: Really?
Horatio: You let me worry about everything, okay?
Valera: Okay.
Horatio: *leaves*
Valera: *sigh*
PD, ten minutes later
Delko: *runs over* H.
Horatio: How's Jess?
Delko: I don't know. She won't open the door for me, even when I told her Alena was found.
Horatio: She's in the interview room right now if you'd like to speak to her.
Delko: I would. Where's Stetler?
Horatio: Why?
Delko: I want five minutes alone with him.
Horatio: He's in lockup, no one's going to touch him.
Delko: *frowns* He stole my baby girl.
Horatio: I know but right now you need to steer clear of incriminating activities so why don't you visit your daughter and let me take care of Stetler.
Delko: Alright. *walks into interview room*
Interrogation room
Delko: ...Alena?
Alena: DADDY! *runs over*
Delko: *picks up Alena, hugs her*
Alena: *starts to cry*
Delko: Oh it's okay, shhh. Shh don't cry. You're safe now.
Alena: *hugs tighter*
Delko: *looks through glass*
Horatio: *stares at Eric*
Delko: *nods*
Horatio: *walks away*
Colombia, Foreign Affairs building, 9pm
Lori: *doing paperwork*
Knock on door is heard
Lori: Come in.
Speed: *walks in*
Lori: *looks up* Shouldn't you be on your way to Miami?
Speed: *sits down* Your mother enjoyed lunch.
Lori: Good.
Speed: You always work this late?
Lori: I was pushed back a few hours by lunch so yes, I'm here this late.
Speed: I'm sorry you were inconvenienced by her.
Lori: *sigh* You know that's not what I meant. *puts down pen* Look I just...I have my own life now. I can't just throw everything away at the last minute for you guys. I'm sorry I faked my death, I'm sorry it was so wrong but I did what I had to do.
Speed: And what is that?
Lori: Ever since I was old enough to make the decision of what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, I felt I couldn't do it. Like I was being held back somehow. This was the only way I felt I could help the people I cared about. I grew up with these people.
Speed: Not by choice.
Lori: No. But it changed my life,
they changed my life.
Speed: *nods*
Lori: ...The first two months I was here, a fourteen year old girl was shoved out of a moving vehicle by her pimp and then she was beaten by the people standing on the sidewalk. It was a bad area of town and she didn't seem to have a chance. They were fighting against an invisible enemy through a young defenseless girl. She was executed for trespassing. You call that justice?
Speed: ..No.
Lori: I found the guy who pushed her out of the car about a year later. He was sick, diseased, lying near a creek waiting to die. His muscles were eaten away so much by his own body that he couldn't even lift his head. I...Had always pictured this man to be a monster but he wasn't. He was a weak and frail human being. He was clearly suffering.
Speed: *stares at Lori*
Lori: So I shot him.
Speed: ...
Lori: I expected to save everybody but when I realized I couldn't, that's when the reality sunk in. Not everything is in my control, if anything, it's completely beyond what I'm capable of. I want you to know that leaving Miami was not a rebellious, stupid unrealistic plan for a better life.
Speed: So you expect me to forgive you or something? Just because you saw a man dying?
Lori: No. I don't need redemption from you. *stands, walks over to shelf* I just thought that if you understood, then you wouldn't be so pissed. *places books into shelf*
Speed: *stands* Well I'm angry.
Lori: Of course.
Speed: Do you know what you put your mother through? She was devestated and she didn't have to be. We would have understood if you wanted to leave.
Lori: No you wouldn't. You'd try to keep me in Miami, or you'd come after me here. I'm tired of being chased by a life I don't want.
Speed: I guess you made your choice then.
Lori: Yeah I guess I did.
Speed: ...I'm sorry.
Lori: *stares at Speed*
Speed: I'm sorry for everything. Every pain you've ever felt, ever tear you've cried. I'm so sorry.
Lori: ...
Speed: *looks down at floor* ...I can't be strong anymore.
Lori: *hugs Speed*
Speed: *starts to cry*
Lori: I love you, dad.
