ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 18) - Skeletal remains found in the woods are the Florida 3-year-old who has been missing since June, but they don't reveal any clues about how she was killed, a county medical examiner said Friday. A utility worker stumbled upon the remains last week, less than a half-mile from where the girl lived. DNA tests confirm that the remains match Caylee Anthony's genetic profile, said the medical examiner, Dr. Jan Garavaglia.
Caylee's mother, 22-year-old Casey Anthony, was indicted in October on first-degree murder and other charges, even though no body was found. She has insisted that she left the girl with a baby sitter in June, but she didn't report her missing until July.

It took authorities several days to analyze the remains, and some tests are still being completed. Some of the bones were as small as a pebble and had been scattered, and the fragments were hard to find by excavators who searched on their hands and knees, authorities said. The bone fragments did not reveal any trauma before death, Garavaglia said, but exactly what happened to the girl remains a mystery.
"Bottom line is, folks, no child should have to go through this," said Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary.
A search team said they did not check the wooded area sooner because it was submerged in water. Beary said his department was investigating reports that the utility worker who called in the tip leading to the discovery of the remains had tried several times in August to call in his suspicion about a bag in the area.
"If we missed a window of opportunity we don't know," he said. "I'm not throwing anybody under the bus because we don't know. That's why we conduct an administrative review."
Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, was with her at the Orange County Jail shortly after she found out the news from a jail chaplain, said Todd Black, a spokesman for the attorney. She was notified about 15 minutes before the news conference about the positive identification. Black said he wouldn't comment on her reaction.

A message left for the attorney representing George and Cindy Anthony, Casey's parents, was not immediately returned.
The Orange County utility worker, Roy Kronk, identified himself at a brief afternoon news conference. He said that he had contacted the Orange County Sheriff's office in August to report that he had seen "something suspicious, a bag, in the same area."
Reading from a statement, he said he was cooperating with the sheriff's office and FBI and would not discuss details with the media.
David Evans, his lawyer, said Kronk is not involved in the girl's disappearance.
"His participation in this matter is strictly as a concerned citizen with a sharp eye, good instincts," Evans said. "Those who have speculated to the contrary could not be more wrong."
Evans asked that the media give his client and other utility workers their privacy.
The case captivated the community where the little girl's family lived, and Caylee has been a staple on national news as her grandparents pleaded for tips, promising that the girl was still alive.
Caylee's grandmother first called authorities in July to say she hadn't seen the girl for a month and her daughter's car smelled like death.
Police immediately interviewed Anthony and soon said everything she told them about her daughter's whereabouts was false. The baby sitter was nonexistent and the apartment where Anthony said she had last seen Caylee had been empty for months. Anthony also lied about where she worked, they said.
Other troubling details emerged: Photos surfaced of Anthony partying after her daughter went missing. Friends said she was a habitual liar, but also a good mother.
Last month, the Orange County State Attorney turned over almost 800 pages of documents showing someone used the Anthonys' home computer to do Internet searches for terms like "neck breaking" and "household weapons."
In mid-March, someone searched Google and Wikipedia for peroxide, shovels, acetone, alcohol and chloroform. Traces of chloroform, which is used to induce unconsciousness and a component of human decomposition, were found in the trunk of Casey Anthony's car during forensic testing, the documents say.

I have to say this is truly saddening. I remember reading about this in my PEOPLE magazine a few times and hoping they would find her alive and unharmed. Unfortunately this wasn't the case and I can only hope now that they catch who did this.

According to the DA and cops they believe they did, her 22 yr old mother Casey whom they have locked up. Who according to papers didn't want her to begin with, she wanted to adopt her out after she was born but her mom Cindy talked her into keeping the child.

With Adam Walsh it took 27 yrs for them to decide who the killer was and by the time they announce (day before yesterday) it the guy is dead serving a life sentence for an unrelated crime.

There are just way to many missing kids out there, I just wish the media would be equal with regards to how they treat the coverage of them, its just a shame.

So unbeliveable, and so beyond sad, I've followed this case since the onset, with Greta and Nancy Grace, and a gut feeling that she was always dead, and the meter reader alerted the police 3 times back in August, and that's a crime in itself, why didn't he just take the remains in the trash bag to the police himself, then? someone definately dropped the ball on this, her mouth and head were duct-taped, dear lord I can't even begin to comprehend this:( thank's Christmaslights for posting this~

While that might be the first thought, it would be the wrong one, because in doing so he would be contaminating the scene, possibly destroying evidence, and so on, the first thing you should do when you find something suspious with the known fact that a person went missing in the area is just what he did call the cops and he did 3 times that should have been enough, but when they did check it out the cop claimed he had to get out because of a "big snake", no one followed up on it further, maybe he thought they did and it was nothing, until he came upon it again by then it nature got involved and again he did the right thing calling the cops yet again.

I know in a press conference he did today, they [the media] made it known that he is the type of guy who is sort of shy, the only reason he did it was to ask the media to leave his co workers alone, and to finally end the couriousity as to who he was.

I'm appalled that anyone could do this to children, especially their own. When I was younger, I used to live in South Carolina and a woman named Susan Smith put her children into a car and let it roll into a river. My mom and my aunt grew up with her and they could not believe that she would ever do something like that. I guess it's amazing how crazy some people are, and how they flip just like that.

I know I thought I would help to try and locate them by getting the word out and starting a message board on it, but there are just so many that it breaks your heart.

I remember Susan Smith when I watch tv news. She killed her kids over a guy she involved with. She didn't have a easy time in prison.

I can't believe Caylee's mother will do that to her own daughter. If the mother don't want her, give her up for adoption.

I don't understand why would a mother will killed the kids if they don't want them, why can they give them up for adoption? There is a lot of people out there want kids, if they can't have kids.

From what I understand, Casey didn't want her when she found out she was pregnante and wanted to give her up, but Cindy, Casey's mom convinced her to keep the child, why she [Cindy] just didn't adopt Caylee is beyond me. But she [Casey] do searches on her computer for "peroxide," "acetone," "alcohol," "shovels" and "lost numbers," as well as how to make chloroform and they [cops] did find that in her car, why would you need that, according to some experts some parents who want to go out and party will dose their kids because it induce unconsciousness, she also did a search on "Neck breaking" and "household weapons" seems strange to me. But then someone gets her out so as she said could help the police, the only problem is that she refused to talk to them after she got out, she refused to talk to the bail bondmen who helped her get out, she refused to help Equi-search group, What mother if your child is missing does that?

Course why does a mother wait over 30 days before notifing someone that her daughter is missing, then off course it is the grandmother who called the cops. Check out this quote from Fox News The judge scolded the mother, saying she had "no regret or concern for her actions," "You left your 2-year-old child with a person who does not exist at an apartment you cannot identify and you lied to your parents about your child's whereabouts," said Judge John Jordan. "You cared so little about your child."

For anyone interested here is a Timeline, Documents and Text Messages & Here as well regarding the case.

Did she do it, I don't know but from everything that is detailed and been said it seemed Casey was more about partying and sleeping around, then she was about this beautiful little girl. The fact that she was talked into keeping her puts another spin on things because according to reports Casey was mommy's little darling, and then when Caylee came along she too got alot of attention from her parents I guess taking it away from Casey. Casey might be 22 but she is far from responsible she is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, but I just can't help thinking after reading what there is and what has been said that she either did it, or helped to do it, but if she loved that child at all it doesn't show what so ever. JMO.

You know, I keep hearing some people say that Casey has a personality disorder (some experts on news shows and such). It makes me wonder if the defense team will try to argue that Casey has a split personality and that her normal personality was not aware of what the other personality had done.

Kind of like a CSI-like Melissa Marlowe / Tammy Felton

Yeah, exactly. I've even wondered if someone will try to say that Casey's other personality was "Zanny The Nanny". Kind of like that movie with Dakota Fanning and Robert Deniro where he was her father, but had a split personality which was her "imaginary" friend. And when he was the other personality she called him by that name "Charlie" (I think that was the other personality). And I heard someone say (somewhere on tv) that Caylee actually mentioned Zanny's name. So, I just wonder.

I don't know the defense is backing Casey in that there was an actual babysitter and that everything she [Casey] said was true. I mean what else are they going to say? Aha, found it a quote from a news story about what I just mentioned.
"Anthony and her defense team have maintained that she last saw Caylee when she left her with a baby sitter named Zenaida Gonzalez in an apartment complex parking lot. Anthony's lawyers say Gonzalez and another woman drove away with the child.
Police claim that story and the sitter are fictitious and Anthony has lied to them repeatedly. - Black suggested last weekend that the defense would argue Caylee was killed by her purported kidnapper."

Judge Orders Release of Caylee Anthony Evidence <SNIPS>
judge ordered prosecutors Tuesday to turn over photos and X-rays of the remains of Caylee Anthony to defense attorneys for her mother, who is charged with murdering the Orlando toddler. <SNIP> A jail spokesman said Casey Anthony will not be able to attend a funeral or viewing for her daughter due to her charges and the associated safety and security risks.

Referring back to the meter reader who found the body, as part of the above snips was this.
In one of the August phone calls, Kronk described "something white and round" underneath a tree in the swamp. Kronk told the 911 dispatcher that he didn't want to get a better look of what it was because he feared rattlesnakes. - "I don't know what it is but it doesn't look like something that should be there," Kronk said. - In one of the calls, the dispatcher told Kronk to contact the tip line. Kronk was hesitant since he wanted to remain anonymous. The dispatcher assured him he could remain anonymous. - "Not if they find a freaking body," Kronk said.

It might sound cruel and I don't mean for it to but that last line for some reason hit me wrong and I actually laughed because its like you are watching them saying that like they would on a tv show.

Of course this is a good way for the defense to work, Casey Anthony Defense Worried Police Are Tampering With Evidence, Accuse Cops of Lying - oookay yeah those ba$tards have nothing better to do with their time then lie and frame her, and I am sure it will be their fault that she failed to report her daughter missing for over 30 days, and or tell her own parents the kid was missing, but they are lying, at least they looked for her, from what I understand she didn't do much of anything when it came to her daughter, but the defense claims she is a loving mommy.

I think the evidence will speak for itself in this case. While there's nothing more than circumstancial evidence against the tot mom, prosecutors have won cases on much less I'm sure. I still think that the defense would have a better chance at a "split-personality" defense. I mean maybe she'd get put in a mental facility instead of a jail. And the defense would probably have a better chance with that type of defense rather than the whole "the invisible baby-sitter did it" defense. I just don't understand why they aren't trying to argue that the tot mom has some kind of personality disorder. Maybe they could try the post-pardum depression angle. It worked for others.

Probably because they know her too well? The woman preferred partying to taking care if she [Caylee] had the sniffles, she preferred dating and getting together with friends instead of spending a little time with her daughter, and she preferred to not talk to those helping her, except to change her story, to try and find her daughter. How do I know all this? the transcript link I gave says it all.

I am not sure the mental angle would work, she has done way too much to screw up that idea, though the defense could try and blame it on a paper cut. I agree and as I mentioned before she is innocent until proven guilty, but she did not help herself at all. She might be 22 or 23 but that doesn't mean she doesn't know the difference between right and wrong, and being responsible. If it were just the babysitter that she allegedly lied about, she lied about her work, she lied about where she was dropping her off for said babysitter. If there was an ounce of truth that came out of her mouth it will be hard to tell what it is. I think if she tried to claim mental I would have to agree the woman is crazy but from what I have read and see of her I would have to say that its just not in the way were talking about.

I just can't get past the no reporting of the missing child until a month after she disappeared, I know she said she was scared and decided to launch her own investigation  but you would think she would at least tell her parents, so that they could help her, or quietly go to the police or have someone do it. And if she was so scared why after that months time did she fineally show up and start with she has been kidnapped? This is like a badly written tv drama, actually it reminds me of bits and pieces of several tv drama's put together to fit a thought.

The grandparents I am sorry are not much better, first they are look at us help us, find Caylee, then they are insinuating their daughter might have something to do with it, then turn around and defend her, then when people start wondering with all that came out and start asking questions they suddenly go all everyone is against us. Makes me want to shake the entire family and tell them to Snap out of it and tell the full honest on a bible, to a priest, what have you truth. Because there is enough BS being spude to fill a pasture. But thats my opinion.

The fact that she didn't report for a month always threw me because as a parent, if I don't know where my child is for a minute, I start to worry. Even if she is not with me, I at least need to know where she is. She is only eight.

My daughter left the school once without telling me and when I got there and didn't know where she was, I was in a panic and was about to call the police on my cell when somone spotted her in the playground next door.

I was angry and relieved at once and, but those few moments I didn't know where she was were terrifying.

So I cannot for a second understand this woman whose daughter is only three and waited a month before reporting her missing?! Sorry it makes no sense but it does look very guilty on her part.
