Ratings Round-Up

CSI Files

Captain
While the original CSI took second to Grey’s Anatomy last week, the spin-offs won their timeslots.

CBS won Monday night with a 9.0 rating/14 share for the night, over NBC’s 8.0/12 and FOX’s 7.4/11. CSI:Miami contributed to this victory by winning it’s timeslot 12.0/19 over NBC’s Studio 60, 4.7/8, and ABC’s What About Brian, 3.9/6.

On Wednesday night, FOX again proved unbeatable thanks to American Idol. Fox took the night with numbers better than the combined numbers of four other networks. Fox scored an 18.8 rating/28 share for the night over CBS’s 6.2/10 and NBC’s 5.3/8. Never the less, CSI:NY won its timeslot with a 9.0/13, beating out NBC’s Medium with a 5.8/10 and ABC’s Primetime:Medical Mysteries with 3.9/6.

On Thursday, CBS came out on top for the night with a 10.2 rating/16 share over ABC’s 9.5/15 and NBC’s 3.6/6. The network did not fare as well in the 9:00 pm timeslot though. ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy won with a 14.0/21 to CBS’s CSI with 13.1/19 and NBC’s Scrubs and 30 Rock, which averaged only 2.9/4.

ABC's Lost will share the same timeslot as CSI:NY as of Feb 7, hopefully that won't change the standings =(

I think the problem with the ratings for CBS in my area is due to the accessibility of the shows after they are aired. I'm a big fan of all CSI's, but also a big fan of LOST and Grey's Anatomy. When it comes to a night where they are both on, I usually have to pick one to watch. I always choose the non CBS shows. Last week I chose Grey's Anatomy. Now I really wanted to watch CSI at the time it was on, but my reasoning of the matter was that I can watch CSI anytime I want. With comcasts ondemand feature, all CSI's can be seen at anytime after midnight on the date after they are aired. So instead of trying to search around for videotapes and worry about making sure I get to see both shows, I know that with the click of a button I can catch CSI a few hours later. With that in mind, of course the ratings maybe less, because ABC does not offer this feature, nor does NBC. That is where I think CBS goes right.
