Picture Posting Question

I said no, only for the fact I sometimes find some URLs don't always work. (either they're broken or incomplete) Meaning you can't view! But it's just a personal observation and opinion. I DO agree on limiting the size though, like it already is.

Honestly, if you have "picture threads," then you should be able to post actual photos. Posting links to photos would be pointless and thus there would be no need to photo threads. You could just post the links in the main character/actor thread.

Destiny, I think right now, the size limits and the way you're dealing with photos are fine right now. In some of the other forums here at talkCSI, the photos that are posted are much bigger, and I deal. I think people can deal with the photos posted here in the original CSI forum as well.

As I have said many times over this is just put out there to get an opinion on it, to get idea's, suggestions, ect. in regards to this subject. We wanted to have a discussion and hear from both sides of the table. Even if people were all for it, or against it no one has said what would or wouldn't be done, that has not been decided or thought about at this time, when or if it it comes to that then you would know, until then again this was just to get the thoughts of each side of the this subject.

If you decide to require URLs instead of pictures, that would also mean we can't post smileys other than the ones on the board. I don't know which ones Antony will include, because the Trek board has some that we don't have here. But there are times I like to use some to...

or other occasions.

I just thought of something, I use the url links because to do otherwise would require alot of cropping and uploading of more photos.

I know some of the photo sites allow you to resize, but the sizes don't always match what's allowed. Either they're too small or too big. I really don't want to have to recrop photos in photoshop and upload the cropped and the original photo.

There's probably a easier way to do this. If there is let me know and I'll try it, but I voted for the url's. Even though not all urls are descriptive, I find that some of the ways we describe the url entices me to look even if it doesn't say exactly what it is. Does this make sense?

Though I see both sides. I do think that the rules should be the same across the board no matter if you're posting in CSI LV, Miami or New York.

However, I don't know why in CSI LV we're only allowed 6 links per post. I don't think I ever knew why, but I'm all for allowing more than 6 links at a time. :)

I don't see how smilies would be included as part of this, unless the smilies were so large it would be over the top, or that the post was mostly smilies and less talk which would be spam in which case would be a no-no.

Actually given that before any of the mods (whose forum has size requirements) there were no requirements, which brought on complaints by alot of people who didn't like having their screens stretched or their posts constantly edited because of it. As to other forums, with the exception of a couple, most have a size limit, they might not be the same exactly but (as I posted above) they are close.

Tally and Myself discussed this and considering how many would be reasonable not to little, and not overboard and we came up with six per post. Not to mention that we also have to open them and websites, ect. So to make it easy on everyone that was the number we came up with.

stokesgirl, the only help I can give on the resizing of pics and such is to look around, or if you haven't try asking in the "Art Forum" maybe they can give you some idea's. :)

As Destiny has mentioned, we're looking at what's best for this Forum and its users in the majority so the final outcome will be on that basis. We hope of course that this will be done with your contributions and final support in this matter. We will take all the points raised under active consideration.

I like rules and regs. :) Gives all Users and Mods as well, a proper guideline on content and boundaries so we can all enjoy this forum in the spirit and manner in which it was intended. People as "a group of people" do better when they know what's expected of them and the boundaries involved. This is expecially so in a virtual situation where we need to be even more mindful of the sensitivities involved coupled with respectful consideration when interacting in this virtual community.

As for the differing rules and regs as it pertains to "operational" use in the different forums on this Board, this is where the special flavor of each forum comes into play. I'm all for retaining the uniqueness of each forum without it becoming too "Stepford-like". All the Forums are alike in the "administrative" aspect but the Mods and their Forum members are relatively free to operationalize the forum according to their Forum's local flavor, so to speak. This aspect was agreed upon some time ago and seems to have been ticking over fairly smoothly.

Yes, LV forum has a number of image threads and we've supported that on the basis that we really enjoy viewing the images. :) So these threads were set up so that most all who wish to view the images can do so in a relatively pc-friendly manner i.e. no gargatuan images to stretch the screen or that takes yonks to download, which is especially irksome for those not on cable; multiple serpiginous url links that reach across space and time and worse yet some of which lead to No-where Land etc.

Does give some food for thought. End of the day, we want to have a Forum, which most if not all of our members feel works for them on multiple levels coupled with an understanding that there will be some need for give and take.

As always, Destiny and I are ever grateful to the members for the continued support in helping us sustain and continually improve this Forum. Thank you to all.

Cheers.

That makes sense. Thank for letting me know why.

I still vote for the url's, but whatever is decided I'll work with it. Give and take works for me.

I love this message board and I think you mods do a great job keeping us all in line. Especially, compared to other boards I've been on.
