Out of Time Queries

Dead on Arrival
I've rewatched Out of Time quite a few times (it is actually one of my better episodes) but I just can't get my head around the fact that everything was solved so quickly.

Jesse had "5 hours left on the clock" and even though it was "1997" and the technology was really not up to par compared with present day Miami, the case was still solved within those 5 hours.

Now technically, if cases in 1997 were solved in 5 hours, shouldn't the ones in present day take just a couple?! LOL.

Why do the writers insist on going down this particular unrealistic route? The first few seasons were not like this at all. Yes, it's "just a TV show" but remember that CSI is a representation of "real life", they need to get some things correct at least.

Don't you mean one of your 'best' episodes? Anyway, Jess was off the clock by the time the case was solved, because Horatio asked for the favor...plus it's a 1 hour show and I think CBS is running low on money now cuz they cut down on wardobe, do u remember in season 1 through 3 they used to have about two days for a case and the actors had different clothes? And I think they're a bit lazy in trying to make the hours seem long, they just say oh, they'll take this and blah blah...come to think of it, they have little follow=up skils too, they dont follow up stories/continue things well, no wonder miami has so little viewers now, even almost less than New york which started AFTER them.

Not only that, but if memory serves, they used to solve TWO cases in one episode! Probably because they also had a lot more lab techs.

I think Miami has always been like that. Homicide cases that take days or weeks to be solved in RL are solved in a matter of hours in Miami. Often a DNA result will take weeks to come back from an off-site lab, but Maxine or Natalia can do them in mere minutes.

Actually, Out of Time is one of my favorites, too.

I suppose it's all down to the type of case. I think with Out of Time the focus was more on the development of the characters who are now, so many years on their professional CSI selves, rather than the actual murder case that was, in my mind, going on in the background. Delko from tow truck operator, to CSI. Calleigh from innocent scientist to Ballistics Expert and Assistant Supervisor etc. That's my take on it anyway. Haha.
