October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I would believe that fish helps, but soy? I mean its got alot of negative aspects behind it - could it really fight cancer?

Here was a research that ryebread also prevents breast cancer.

Since we eat it a lot. It's goodto research.

I believe cancer is just sum of all, no one thing can prevent it.

I agree.
The same doctor used to tell us that we should chew and swallow grape seeds, not spit them out. He said that helps prevent cancer. Oh yeah, grapefruit too. Almost anything bitter can fight cancer.

I have two aunts who are breast cancer survivors. Now i have another aunt (my mom's sister) that has breast cancer. I really hope they find a cure for it cause this cancer is really bad. I dont know if it runs in my family but i do get scared that im going to have it. Im only 20 years old but i do think about it a lot. And i do want to go check myself cause anyone can get breast cancer even if you are the healthiest person on earth you can get it.

Thank's hhunter for this topic-important ;)

Tomboy Tools which offers home improvement parties and sells tools for women is now offering the "Pink for a Purpose" hammer!! The 13 ounce, magnetized hammer sells for $14.95, $6 of which goes to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The company had previously stayed away from pink, trying to steer clear of sterotypes of women and tools, but broke the company rule for this cause. To order the hammer or learn more about Tomboy Tools go to

There are many companies and causes benefitting Breast Cancer Research such as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
I felt by bringing them up it would be considered 'advertising' and that is against the board rules
right?
So if you are interested contact the American Cancer Society for further information on Cancer Research

I didn't mean to undermind desertwind ;)
I just wasn't sure about bringing up Susan G. Komen because I thought the mods would think it's advertising.

my aunt had cancer years ago... and my dad died of tonsil cancer.. so i am pretty much scared of cancer... it is in my genes!

possibly, but you can check out several websites and have a test done ( out of pocket expense) to find out if you carry the breast cancer gene
but that is up to you, your doctor and your family

if you take care of yourself, eat right, exersise, all the stuff needed for a healthy lifestyle then I wouldn't worry

I just thought to revive this thread as it is October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

My family has been touched by breast cancer. My Mom was diagnosed in January 2005, three months after my Dad passed away. It was devastating news to take. I thought the world had ended. I was crying uncontrollably when I learned of the diagnosis. A month after, my Aunt was diagnosed to have breast cancer as well. They both underwent a mastectomy. Chemo was hard on them but especially more for my Mom. They also both went through radiation therapy. Thankfully, three and a half years later, my Mom is in remission. Sadly, we received word last April that my Aunt's cancer has spread to her bones. It was so difficult seeing her suffer through the pain. She had to have surgery to repair her hips, where the cancer had damaged her bones. My Aunt is in better spirits but we all know that she has little time left.

We continue to pray that my Mom stays cancer-free and that my Aunt's pain-free.

Get tested. Get a mammogram. Early diagnosis is so much better.

I'm so sorry to hear all that, mandy. Your family will be in my prayers. :)

This Sunday I'm going on a walk against cancer with a few friends.

That's great! I hope you have a good time. :)

Ever since my Mom was diagnosed, we have become more conscious about the products we use at home. We only use organic shampoos, conditioners, lotions, soap, other hair and body care products without parabens and lauryl sulfates. Big companies like Procter & Gamble still use parabens and lauryl sulfates in their products. For make-up, we only use mineral make-up. Imagine some of these big companies that sell make-up put formaldehyde in their products! It's such a shame that big companies won't take the initiative towards creating products that are free of carcinogens for more profit.

Do yourself a favor...try to use products that have no parabens in them. They may be a bit more expensive but it's your health that's at stake.

Ah yes, tomorrow is Pink Day and it's recommended to wear pink at your workplace or such (at least here)

My mom and my aunt are both breast cancer suvivors so we proudly display our pink ribbons all year long.
