Do your self a favor, get a mamogram if you are over 35 or have a family history
there are alot of young women on this board
check your family history, mother, aunt, grandmother, sister, anyone

check yourself every month

One in 8 woman are diagnosed each year with Breast Cancer

Luckily I don't have any cases in the family but I know several people who have. A friend of mine lost his mother to breat cancer when he was 13.
Many women are just not aware of this threat. It's such a devastating illness and it's often detected too late.
I can only second what's been said: Go check yourself. If detected early and treated properly there are good chances to survive.

I've heard on the news that breast cancer isn't only found in women... it's also found in men. (I don't know, I just heard it a few days ago.)

I can only third what's already been said: If you have a lump on your chest that wasn't there before, get yourself checked. Actually, every woman should be getting checked by age 30, because age 35 may be too late. (I don't know, my fingers are doing all the talking.)

Well i only have history of one woman in my family that i know of. she was my granmother and she dies years before i was born. My family and i always support breast cancer research. we do whatever we can.

One of my grandmothers died on breastcancer before i was born..
My aunt is finaly better of it and can life a normal life again.
But my sweet grandmother is so ill of breastcancer that she will die and we dont know how long she have and im sad of that and wile im writhing this i feel the pain of losing here and the tears are there again i just wish i could do something more than i did before she went ill.. My family cant go on with her so well but in the last couple of months i finaly get her and miss her already and she is still alive i hope she will be there on my birthday..

Its a terribel decise.. I hate it..

I'm sorry for you, Nathalie! But I see it's in your family, and it's maybe for your own good that you'll test yourself. I truly recommend that to you. Cause that'll save you a lot of trouble.

It's not in my family, and I'm actually very happy about that.

I'm so sorry to read that, Nathalie. I know how it feels to lose someone you love to cancer. My grandpa died of it when I was younger. There's really nothing you can do but sit with them and be there.
I remember how helpless I felt, being just a kid. I didn't know how to help him and I didn't know how to help my grandma through it.
I hope you can spend enough time with your grandmother to say goodbye to her, and more importantly I hope she won't have to suffer for too long. The last stage of the desease is just plain cruel and painful.

I'm participating in a 10k run tomorrow for Breast Cancer research called "Run for the Cure."
Unfortunately it has touched my family as well. I'm looking forward to the run.
I'll make sure to put a little umph in it for anyone who's ever lost anyone to cancer.

I'm sorry Nathalie Emily
breast cancer is in our family too
my mother, and grandmother both have/had it
we can celebrate our favorite women's lives and make sure we take our of ourselves
you seem to have the right attitude
Again I'm sorry

My mom makes sure I'm always aware. Don't need special awareness month for that. My grandma died from cancer and my aunt has had breast cancer twice now. My cousin and me both have a quite high risk of getting it ourselves. It's not just checking every month, it's also trying to live healthier.

There are things you can do every day that prevent breast cancer (I'm not sure if this applies to those of you with genetic carcinogen tendency - but there is a massage you can give yourself everyday and it will help blood flow to prevent cancer from coming to you. I'll give you more info on that when I get back home.
Also like saras_girlfriend said, its about living healthier. There are certain fruits and vegetables that help fight cancer. A doctor we knew in NY told us that everyone should drink a glass of cranberyy juice every morning, since it gives you energy and fights off diseases.

Also fish and soy are recomended. It's proven that China has the lowest breast cancer rate in the world. Women there eat lots of fish and soy.

im sorry for you too Maaike and hhunter .. Its painful but i can see that we all know what to do and make the right chooses in life to make its so that we live healty .. I just can hope that i wont get it but i will never no for surten.. Thanks for the sweet words and good luck to you both..
