'New York' Season 1 Now Available On DVD

CSI Files

Captain
Yesterday was the release date of the first season of CSI: New York on DVD.

The 7-disc set comes with all 23 episodes of the season plus the Miami/New York cross-over episode "MIA/NYC – NonStop." Extras include an overview of the characters told by the stars, the science behind the show, a set tour, and specials featurettes like why the city of New York was chosen and what it was like for the crew and the stars to work with so many animals – such as dogs, elephants, and rats – during the first season.

The New York set also comes with plenty of commentaries. Series creator <font color=yellow>Anthony Zuiker</font> provided the commentaries for the episodes "Blink," "Officer Blue," and "Tanglewood." Miami showrunner <font color=yellow>Ann Donahue</font> gives the audience an insight into "MIA/NYC – NonStop," and supervising producer <font color=yellow>Timothy J. Lea</font> comments on "Outside Man" and "Recycling."

The boxed set came out to some positive reviews. <font color=yellow>Seth Gecko</font> of AV Forums had this to say about it:

<font color=yellow><blockquote> "This season is presented with a slightly grainy, dark transfer (mainly due to the grim setting) and a superb soundtrack (the best of any of the CSIs), along with a nice assortment of extras. Those who have already seen the show and like it should already have this on pre-order and those who like the other CSI variations should definitely give this a try, you are unlikely to be disappointed." </font></blockquote>

You can read Gecko's review, which also includes an overview of the picture and quality sound of the set, here. <font color=yellow>Brad Bevret</font>, of RopeofSilicon.com, also highly recommended the DVD to anyone with extra funds (seeing as the CSI DVD sets are typically more expensive) and DigitalObsessed.com's <font color=yellow>Chuck Aliaga</font> was so pleased with the quality of the DVDs and the show itself he revealed New York has turned him into a CSI fan. Aliaga gave all aspects of the DVD an A grade.

But not all reviews were positive. <font color=yellow>Stacy Chamberlain</font>, from The Daily Free Press, was a bigger critic of the show than the DVD set itself:

<font color=yellow><blockquote>"Despite an obvious attempt to emulate the original, New York lacks the balance between quirky scientists and a blue-collar supporting cast. Instead, it's filled with hardheaded New Yorkers who assume that every suspect is guilty." </font></blockquote>

The CSI: New York DVD set has a list price of $64.99. However, fans of the show can purchase it from Amazon.com at a 30% discount, or $45.49.<center></center>

I bought it yesterday!!! Woot!!! I have decided to take caps for a new new york gallery, unlike PastMyShoulder, these will contain bigger screencaps and more gallery items!

I am looking for a CSI: NY full screen version DVD. Do any of you know where I could find it in United States?? I have the widescreen version. If there is a full screen version, I am going to return it.

Mine just came in the mail from Amazon today!!! I was so excited!!! I already watched all of the extras and plan on having a CSI marathon soon!! :D

Yeah. There is no fullscreen version. Which kinda sucks, as I actually prefer fullscreen. But the set rocks! I've already watched the extras. Superb.

That's strange because I read that it was widescreen but mine's full screen. I think some DVDs will let you select between the 2 in the settings. I wonder if that's the case here?

yeah mine is also widescreen, but I think you can switch it over to fullscreen on set up options. ( I forgot to check when I started MIA/NYC crossover epi)!

I checked my set and on 1 TV it was widescreen and on another it was full screen. I couldn't find any settings on the DVDs but 1 of my DVD players has settings that can change how you can view DVDs. I haven't checked the other DVD player so I don't know if this is possible on all DVD players.
