Earlier, I posted a request for challenges. There was one reply, but I've since decided to post a challenge of my own. Here it is:
At the end of season 5's "Nesting Dolls" there is a scene where Gil walks into--I think Catherine's office, since Ecklie leaves the room at the end--when she is in a meeting with Ecklie. He has his arm across the back of her chair. I imagine most of you have probably sat with someone like this at some point in your lives, but if any of you haven't-- it's very intimate. On the surface it is entirely professional, especially given the distance between Ecklie and Catherine in this scene. But, any way that you look at it, it is intimate. Twice, I've been in this position with someone. Once, with someone I was completely attracted to. Very sexy. Once, with someone I can't stand, and then, it was completely revolting, because no matter how you look at it the person is so close. Close enough to feel their body heat and smell their scent. So here's the challenge.
Write Grissom's reaction to this scene. It can be any ship you like (as my s/n implies I do tend to favor Ecklie, but I am well aware that I am the minority, so here are my suggestions
GSR: At one point Gil says to Ecklie, regarding Sara, "I need her." He is saying he needs her on his team, but could that comment have been unintentional? Write Grissom's response to having said the words out loud, and the implications of them. You might also consider, but are not required, to address the question of why Catherine is siding with Ecklie regarding Sara's disciplinary action. Ecklie wanted Gil to fire her.
Grissom/Cath: Write Grissom's reaction to seeing Ecklie so close-- a missing scene and an argument can follow, if you like, but any way you want to approach this is fine.
Catherine/Nick or Catherine/Warrick: Catherine goes to Nick or Warrick for support regarding this scene, and maybe to get the feel of Ecklie off of her?
And last but certainly not least and really off the wall, write a Catherine/Ecklie scene-- either her thoughts as to what it felt like to be so close, or the *reason* he was so close in the first place!!!
