MEREDITH EATON JOINS THE CAST OF “MACGYVER” AS A SERIES REGULAR

Meredith Eaton has joined the cast of the CBS action-adventure drama MACGYVER as a series regular. Eaton will portray Matty Webber, the new director of operations at the Phoenix Foundation. Mac (Lucas Till) and the team, with the exception of Jack (George Eads), are excited to meet their new boss, who is known as a legend in Covert Ops. As Jack’s superior for 18 months while on assignment in South America, Matty could make anyone, including the director of the NSA, cry. Eaton’s first episode is scheduled to air Friday, Jan. 13.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have Meredith Eaton join the cast of MACGYVER,” said executive producer and showrunner Peter Lenkov. “Matty Webber is a tough cookie and, despite her history with Jack, she’ll have no problem finding her place in the Phoenix team. She may even teach Mac a few new tricks.”

Eaton is perhaps best known for her recurring role on the series “Boston Legal.” Her breakthrough acting opportunity came at an open casting call for the feature film “Unconditional Love” after she auditioned against 500 women from the U.S., Canada and the U.K., and landed the leading role. Her additional television credits include a series regular role in “Family Law,” recurring roles on “Battle Creek” and “NCIS,” and guest starring roles on “NCIS: New Orleans” and “Without a Trace,” all on the Network. In 2015 Eaton starred in the second installment of the three-part television movie “Turks & Caicos.” Also, she has guest starred on “House” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”

MACGYVER stars Lucas Till, George Eads, Tristin Mays and Justin Hires. Peter Lenkov, Craig O’Neill, James Wan, Henry Winkler, Lee Zlotoff and Michael Clear are executive producers.

Tweet from Peter Lenkov:
Reg MacGyver CBS news 2day - u should know -- Eaton is not replacing Sandrine... Yes, she's the new boss, but hoping Thornton returns SOON!

Nice pics...Watch! always has some interesting photo shoots. Get a subscription to this awesome magazine if you don't already have one. :)
Magazines aren't something we can generally afford around here. Plus I just spent the day shoveling! (I could seriously take a snowstorm without rain at the end :( ) I'm reading them at the CBS website right now though. :)

When he left "CSI", George was going to be done with acting  ... only lasted 4 months with that thought thankfully for us fans. :)

Hawaii Five-0/MacGyver Crossover Set — Welcome to the NCIS-verse, Mac!

As “MacGyver Five-0” boss Peter M. Lenkov himself notes, it seemed inevitable. And now it is indeed happening.

The worlds of MacGyver and Hawaii Five-0 will collide when Daniel Dae Kim, Grace Park and Taylor Wily — who play Chin Ho, Kono and Kamekona on the long-running latter drama — guest-star on the Friday, March 10 episode of the CBS freshman, it was confirmed on Friday. Lucas Till hinted at the crossover with this tweeted photo of Wily on the MacGyver set:

In the MacGyver episode, titled “Flashlight,” Mac and the team travel to the big Island of Hawaii to aid in earthquake-relief efforts. There, Mac and Jack team with Chin Ho and Kono to rescue a group of government scientists trapped in a building on the verge of collapse. But as they do so, a dangerous group using the chaos as a distraction aim to steal some top-secret weaponry that the scientists were working on.

“This crossover has almost seemed inevitable since the day MacGyver premiered,” Lenkov, who serves as showrunner on both Friday series, said in a statement. “We have always envisioned that our H50 ohana and the Phoenix team live in the same universe, and it was about time that Mac and Jack had a case in Hawaii.”

For those keeping score, this means, by the transitive property, that MacGyver exists in the same universe as NCIS (and JAG, for that matter), seeing as Five-0 and NCIS: Los Angeles crossed over years ago. (Scorpion also falls within the shared universe, given LA boss Hetty’s October 2014 visit.)

MacGyver/Hawaii Five-0 Boss Reveals Crossover's First Planted Seed, Mulls 4-Night Event Folding In NCIS Universe

From almost the very first time TV’s new MacGyver whipped out his Swiss Army knife, a plan was afoot to eventually cross over the freshman CBS drama with its lead-out, Hawaii Five-0 — as will happen this Friday at 8/7c.

“There is a detail in the [MacGyver] pilot that, if you look closely — I cut out the part that actually was a little more obvious — on Jack’s gun in the flashback to Iraq, it said, ‘Aloha’ on the barrel,” Peter M. Lenkov, who serves as showrunner on both series, tells TVLine. “That was because Jack (played by George Eads) had actually met McGarrett while in the service, and that was a nod towards that friendship.”

Another nod came during MacGyver‘s Zodiac Killer-themed episode (in which Jack refers to a having an old buddy in Hawaii), while Five-0‘s Chin Ho recently name-checked the Phoenix Foundation, for which Mac, Jack et al execute covert ops.

“We’ve been playing around with the fact that the universes are the same,” Lenkov notes. “Because the [shows’] ingredients were similar, I always knew that they would somehow have some kind of fusion at some point.”

Setting the stage for Friday’s “fusion,” Lucas Till’s MacGyver and his team are on the way back from a mission, flying over the Pacific, when they get wind of and decide to help with an earthquake relief effort in Hawaii. There, they work with Five-0‘s Chin and Kono (Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park) to rescue a group of trapped government scientists — all while some nefarious types plot to steal the top-secret weaponry from the compromised lab.

As the two pairs get to collaborating, Chin and Kono “are a little skeptical of MacGyver, with the nontraditional ways he’s going about the rescue effort. But I think he wins them over after a while,” Lenkov previews. “That even carries over to [Friday’s] Hawaii Five-0, where they talk about meeting this guy MacGyver who was pretty impressive.”

With Five-0 scheduling issues informing who would and would not get to participate in this first crossover, Lenkov expects that there will be more chances to actually reunite Jack and Alex O’Loughlin’s Steve McGarrett, and maybe get insight into their introduction. “Oh yeah, for sure. The plan is hopefully this is one of a few that we’ll do,” he says.

But when presented with the prospect of one day mining the full, shared CBS drama universe — Hawaii Five-0, after all, crossed over with NCIS: Los Angeles in May 2012, and NCIS‘ Hetty once appeared on Scorpion — Lenkov at first lets out a laugh. MacGyver to Five-0 to NCIS: LA to Scorpion to NCIS to NCIS: New Orleans! And then starts his wheels turning….

After all, during his time as a CSI: NY executive producer, he reminds, “We did a three-way crossover between all of the CSIs, and that was one of my favorite experiences, to see these iconic characters working together. So yeah, that would be supercool.”
