Louise Lombard: Sofia Off To A Tragic Start As A Cop

CSI Files

Captain
Louise Lombard (Sofia Curtis) recently talked to TV Guide about tonight's episode and why it might put her character's career in jeopardy.

"She killed one person and there's a possibility she killed somebody else," the actress told the magazine. "It's a tragic start to the two parts. It's a big horrible mistake, something no cop wants to be involved in. They're being shot at and they have to return fire."

In "A Bullet Runs Through It," a routine car chase ends up in disaster when the suspects and the cops get involved in a horrible shootout. The chase ends up with a dead cop, and when the autopsy reveals he may have been killed by friendly fire, Grissom and his team turn to the Las Vegas Police Department for suspects. Things take a bad turn for Sofia when she realizes she may have accidentally killed this cop.

Lombard insists the episode has that CSI quality the audience loves so much. "I think the team behind CSI are an incredibly talented bunch," she said. "When it's right to stick to what audiences know, they do that. And other times they break from that. The idea came up for "A Bullet Runs Through It" and to do it justice, they decided it would need two episodes. They do what they need to do to tell the best possible story. That, I think, is why it's the most popular show on television."

Lombard was introduced to the show last season. Her character worked for Ecklie before she was transferred to Grissom's shift when the team was split. This season, Sofia decided to follow in on her mother's footsteps and become a detective "[Sofia] is very single-minded about what she wants to do and why she wants to do it," Lombard said of her character's motivations. "That can make her a little abrasive and undiplomatic. But basically, she wants to be a cop. That's partly because her mother was one and partly because she wants to get the bad guys."

The first part of "A Bullet Runs Through It" airs tonight at 9/8c. Visit TV Guide to read the rest of the article.

Sofia is awesome; I hope it isn't her that did it! How will they deal with the cop who did fire the shot, though? I mean, it was an accident during a shootout.

I love Sofia, too. I think she's awesome. Can't wait to see this and I'm surprised it's getting so little press.

Also, hottie detective Vartann will be in this episode. Sigh. I WUFF him!

You WUFF him??? LMAO! That's great!

Sofia is really growing on me. I didn't like her at all at first, but I wouldn't wish the friendly fire thing on my worst enemy! Bless her heart........

I have got to say that I like Sofia so much more than I did when she was a CSI. It just seems that she has more.. personality, as a cop. And I've got to say that I felt horrible for her about the shooting.

When her character was first introduced in the show, I didn't know whether I like her or not, but she seemed to have a good rapport with Grissom; they both strike each other as a wee bit eccentric and odd, but they're both good at what they do.

Last night's episode was awesome! It showcased a helluva lot for Sofia who is so dedicated to her work. She was in turmoil and it showed right from the scene before Det. Ortega started to interview Brass and her. I am hoping against hope that she wasn't the one responsible for the cop's death, but her actions tells a helluva another story all together. She was rattled, disoriented, unsure...very intriguing. I can't wait to find out what happens in next week's conclusion.

I'm still waiting for Sophia to grow on me. No mistake, Lombard is a beautiful, talented actress, but the character still makes me twitch inside. As a dedicated Geek Love shipper, I guess I'm conflicted, but there's still hope yet. Hated Ecklie when I first saw him, got over that and now I make up the currently small Ecklie/Marc Vann fan base.

Sonic sounds like a ship I could get into. Lol, for me it's always been Grissom/Sara, Catherine/Warrick, which leaves Nick and Greg. Since I won't settle for them, Sonic sounds like a nice way to go. Must ponder that, hmm.

I hate Sofia, plain and simple. Something about her makes me want to eat myself. I would rather be eaten alive with spoons then spend one minute in the same room with her. But I did feel a little bad for her in Thursday's ep.

Now if she would just stop screwing up her accent...
