Captain
We've decided to streamline the Info threads, as to incorporate the changes regarding fan videos and recent upgrades. That, and I like to make lists. ;)

Please check out the Board Rules if you haven't done so already.

Banners and Sigs:

• According to the rules regarding banners and signature, a banner can be no bigger than 220x75. For example, this banner is 220x75:

GEBanner.jpg

• Of course, your banner can certainly be smaller. Also, posters can have either a banner or a text signature, but not both. In other words, if you have a banner like the one pictured above, you cannot also have a favorite quote from the show, song lyrics, or the link to your website. You have to choose. :( If you want to credit someone for making your banner (which you should), do so on your profile page.

Mutual Respect

• Let’s say you don’t ship Character X and Character Y. Maybe this ship really bugs you. The best policy is to stay out of the Character X/Character Y thread. Let them celebrate their ship in peace.

• There are a lot of posters who ship more than one pairing. Please respect the right of your fellow posters to do this.

Slash Threads: If you are offended by slash, it is best to avoid those threads. Do not go into a slash thread and state that a character is NOT gay, or that slash is “sick” or “wrong.”

• If you feel as though you have been flamed or otherwise attacked, do not respond in kind. Walk away and notify a moderator.

• Please don’t bring grievances about something that occurred outside of Talk CSI (on another board, for example), onto this board.

• In short, treat your fellow posters the way you want to be treated. Everyone here loves CSI. Let’s keep it fun and friendly.

Posting Images

• According to the board rules, you should not post any more than 50-60kb worth of photos per post.

• As a courtesy to other users, please try to keep your images 400x400 pixels or smaller, so that they do not stretch the screen and are easier on dial-up users. If the image you want share is larger, please post a link to it instead.

• Also, please do not hotlink, as it uses up valuable bandwidth of other users.

Adult Content

• As per the Board Rules, linking to adult content is not permitted. In other words, you can’t link to fan fiction or images rated R or above.

• Similarly, please keep on-board discussion rated PG-13 or below. In other words, don’t embellish posts with graphic sexual or violent content.

• Recently, several new ratings systems have cropped up. See post below for an explanation of those.

Spoilers

• If you wish to post a spoiler or discuss a spoiler for an upcoming episode or season, please use the nifty neato spoiler function. This is located at the bottom of the menu marked “Instant UBB Code.”

Starting New Threads

• We've been getting a lot of duplicate threads. Before you start a thread, please use the Search function to see if a thread on your ship already exists. Set the Date Range to search for threads newer than 2 months, and you should be able to find most threads.

Fan Vids and Downloads

• First of all, due to concerns surrounding potential copyright infringement, we regret to inform you that you may no longer post links to any fan videos you make.

• Also, until further notice, you may not link to any other downloadable copyrighted material, such as video clips of the episodes or interviews.

• And as usual, no discussion of downloading episodes or tape trading will be permitted on the board.

Recent Upgrades

• It is no longer necessary to have 100 posts in order to use the Private Message function. All users can now send and receive PMs.

• You still need 100 posts to have an avatar or post an image.

If you have any questions, please post them in the handy dandy Shipper Central Questions Thread or PM either forensicsgirl or me.

*blows kisses*

Ratings

As you all know, TalkCSI is a PG-13 site, meaning that material, and links to material, rated R or NC-17 may not appear on the boards:

TalkCSI Rules State:
In order to protect those posters who are minors, you cannot post NC-17 or R-Rated material anywhere on the BBS, or link to such material.

- G / PG / FRC (Fan Rated Suitable For Children)
ff.net rating = B, K or K+; Graveshift rating = CSI-1

Suitable for anyone. No swearing, only the mildest and most general sexual references and violence. Yes, Bambi's mother may die and someone can make a poopy joke, but nobody has genetalia and all limbs will remain connected to the people they start out on.

- PG-13 / FRT (Fan Rated Suitable For Teenagers)
ff.net rating = T; Graveshift rating = CSI-2

Very mild swearing is fine, as is some nudity and moderate violence. Fade to black sexuality and frank discussion of sexual concepts are fine here.

- R-Rated / FRM (Fan Rated Suitable For Mature Persons)
ff.net rating = M; Graveshift rating = Supervisor

Suitable for older teens (over the age of 15/16) and adults. Your characters may swear like sailors, have actual - albeit slightly fuzzy - sex, and get really graphic with their violence. Sensitive subjects such as sexual violence, torture, child abuse, etc. may be discussed frankly.

- NC-17 / FRAO (Fan Rated Suitable For Adults Only) (MA on ff.net)
ff.net rating = MA; Graveshift rating = CSI-3

Suitable ONLY for mature adults. This is where the extremely graphic sex and Kill Bill level violence live.

Due to the nature of TalkCSI, links to stories rated R/NC-17 may not be given from the boards. If you wish to share stories with this rating with older teens/adults, you may do so via PM, email or messenger.

- Discussions on the board and images post should be considered rated in a similar way to fanfiction. Anything which is too sexually suggestive will be removed.

- Discussion of your own sex-life really isn't appropriate in this (or any) UBB forum. Using real life (non-graphic) analogies to make a point regarding a ship you are discussing may be appropriate from time to time, but other discussions are best left to the private chat rooms or messenger.

- Anyone who repeatedly links to or posts material of an Adult nature (ie: Above PG-13) will be warned.

- A fuller, ever more wordy explanation of the ratings system can be found here

Re: Info from your Mods-Read Before Posting (Updated 2/28/06

I would have thought this obvious, but:

Can I Start a Thread About ANY Couple?

You can start a thread to ship pretty much any character on CSI, CSI: Miami, or CSI: NY with another character on CSI, CSI: Miami, or CSI: NY. In other words, please don't start a ship for Danny Messer and some character on LOST. This is a crowded forum, so let's keep it for the CSI programs only. Cool?

Also, don't start a ship to ship characters with original (fan-created) characters or inantimate objects. The former should be written as a fanfic and placed in the Fan Fiction forum. The latter is just in poor taste.

Re: Info from your Mods-Read Before Posting -Updated 7/16/06

Hey all.

Summer is here and with it comes an excess of time to spend on the boards (for those of you lucky not to be holding down a 9-5 job in this heat *sob*) as well as a lack of new episodes to discuss. This tends to lead to less to talk about and a lot more time to do it in.

I fully understand the difficulty in coming up with new topics during the dry period between seasons, but I do need to remind you all that this is a discussion board. Posts which become too chatty clog up an already busy board, and can be frustrating for those posters who come on line looking for a good discussion, only to be met with a chatty conversation.

In order to try and get Shipper Central back from the brink of spam, please bear the following points in mind:

- Be On Topic.

- Don’t chat. If you want to discussion your real lives or even discuss your ship in a more chat-like manner, please take the conversation to one of the chat-mediums.

- Flesh out your posts – short, one-line posts are usually considered spam, so try to ensure that your post is discursive and meaningfully contributes to the discussion.

- Please do not let comments such as “Great fic. Loved it” be the sum total of your posts. Include such praise in a post that includes other on-topic material.

The following was posted by TBonz a while back, but it bears repeating. Please take what she has said on board – she is the boss of us all.

A reminder to all.

This is Shipper Central. It's for discussion about certain pairings.

It's not a place to yap about school, your home life, and other chat type things. I saw a lot of this when I went through some of the threads.

I know you want to have fun. But if you're posting every minute or two or three, you're not posting, you're chatting and should move to one of the chat mediums. If you're off-topic about your real lives, etc., that is, to be honest, cluttering up an already busy forum.

Please make sure that you're involved in discussions and not just chit-chatting. Also - I don't want to see folks going post crazy. Sixty posts a day is a bit much, and some of you are racking them up like crazy.

So before you post, make sure it's on-topic and it's not chit-chatty. I'm happy that people have made friends here, and I know that makes coming to a BBS that much fun. Believe me, I know how easy it is to start talking and get out of hand. :D But you need to be considerate of your fellow posters.

Repeat offenders may be warned. They may also lose post count, I can reduce it if I feel that someone is spamming for rank. Finally, if someone is asked politely to cut it back or to keep things from being chit-chat, I will remove the offender.

I don't want to do that. There's nothing I hate more than being the meanie. But we need to get this under control. This forum has really gotten to the point where the spam and chat is out-of-control. Please cooperate with us.

Thanks. :)
