Heroes, Straight From The Heart: CSI NY - NCIS crossover

Washington DC

Three months after they lost their child Jethro and Jordan were silently working on the new boat in the basement. Jordan had gone quiet during this time. When Kenzy and Aileen came running down the basement with the phone she silently looked up.

“It’s Uncle Mac, mummy.” Kenzy said holding out the phone. Jordan stared at the phone and then lifted Aileen up and walked up the stairs. Jethro took the phone from Kenzy.

“I’ll make sure she’s okay, daddy.” Kenzy gave Jethro a sad smile and followed Jordan upstairs.

“What’s up, Mac?” Gibbs sighed while his concerned followed his girls walking up the stairs.

“How’s she doing, Jethro?” Mac asked as Jordan didn’t answer the call.

“To be honest, Mac…” Jethro rubbed his eyes. “I feel like she’s slipping away from me.” The line went silent for a moment. He walked to the workbench and poured himself a bourbon.

“I figured as much.” Mac broke the silence. “That’s why I have a plan. Well actually you and Jordan had a plan.”

“Keep talking.” Jethro took a sip of his bourbon and was all ears.

“I found that ‘case file’ that Jordan dropped by Danny’s when…” He stopped for a moment. Visions about that horrible night came back to them both. Then Jethro recalled the ‘redoing vows file’ that he and Jordan had put together. “Anyway, I think it might be a good idea for the summer holiday so the girls get their spirits back.”

“Mac, how the hell am I supposed to get her back to New York after all that happened?”

“That’s where Abby comes in.” Mac grinned.

“Abby?” Jethro snapped. “I don’t even know if she’s over Adam.” He remembered the bad break up between the two of them.

“Adam won't be a problem. Lindsay hasn't come back yet and Danny is working double shifts. God knows he could use a break too. Jordan and Abby would never leave me or Danny hanging on. You gotta work your magic here, Jethro.” He urged.

“Mac…” Gibbs said. “I don’t know where the hell this is going to end…” He took another sip of his bourbon, “but it sure is worth a try. Let me speak to Abby first thing tomorrow morning and I’ll get back to you.” Gibbs replied.

After Jethro had hung up he went upstairs and checked on Jordan and the kids. She was watching Ryan as he slept. Jethro let her know that he was there. The last thing he wanted was to do was to spook her.

“You okay?” He asked. Jordan nodded as she straightened the blanket over Ryan.

“He looks peacful.” Jordan stroked her son's hair out of his face. She then walked up to Jethro and together they watched their son.

“What did Mac want?” She asked softly. Jethro gently laid his arms around her shoulders.

“Help." Jordan looked quizically. "He and Danny need your expertise.” Jethro said in a pleading tone. Jordan turned and watched his troubled expression. "Abby's requested as well."

“Must be a really tough case then." She sighed. Jethro pulled her in and felt her shiver. "When do we leave?”

“Gotta check with Abbs first thing tomorrow.” He lifted up her chin and planted a soft kiss on her forehead.

“It’ll be okay, Jehtro. If Mac needs help will be the last person to say no." Jordan said softly.

Together they left Ryans rooms and made the arrangement for their flight to New York.

The next day Stella was changing the twins with Robin’s help. After she had washed and changed the twins, Robin had hopped on the bed with Mac. She was waiting for her Stella to hand her the bottle.

“Hurry up mummy.” Robin yelled as Sadie started to cry. Stella came walking in and handed her the bottle. Mac helped Robin to feed her little sister while Stella gave Brody his bottle.

“You’re doing a great job, Robin.” Mac kissed his daughter on the top of her head. Stella sat down on the rocking chair when Logan walked in.

“Dad.” He held the phone to his chest. “Uncle Danny wants to know who’s going to the airport.” Stella looked up at Mac.

“Tell Uncle Danny he can.” Mac grinned at Stella. “I’m helping the girls here.” Logan rolled his eyes at Mac.

“Dad’s is having the hardest time with Robin and Sadie.” Logan mocked and walked out of the bedroom. Stella got up from the chair and held Brody to her chest to make him burb.

“What aren’t you telling me, Taylor?” She lifted her brow at Mac. Robin giggled at her mummy’s expression. He took Sadie from Robin and got up as well.

“Go get dressed, Robin.” He smirked at his daughter. Robin crawled from the bed and left for her own bedroom. Stella was still waiting for him to answer.

“Well…?” She asked as they walked to the nursery and laid the twins in to their cribs.

“Well…” He laid his arm around her waist and pulled her in. “Jethro and Jordan are flying in today with the kids.” He gently covered his lips on hers and felt her smile.

“How on earth did you do that?” Stella smiled and returned his kiss.

“Worked out a plan.” He smirked at her green eyes. “And I need you to cooperate with everything, no questions asked, Gorgeous.”

“What are you up to, Taylor?” Stella rolled her big eyes at him. Mac shook his head.

“No questions asked, Stell.” He repeated. “Just humour me.” He said as drew a puppy face.

“I’ll shut up for now.” She squeezed his cheeks. “But if you go too far, I’ll be definitely stepping in.” She then planted a kiss on his crushed lips.

An hour later Mac saw Danny’s car stop and the kids running out. He called upstairs to Stella that their guest had arrived. Opening the door Jethro’s and Jordan’s kids stormed in.

“Can we see the babies, Uncle Mac?” Aileen squealed and jumped in to his arms. Mac caught her just in time.

“What ever happened to hello Uncle Mac?” He teased. Aileen kissed him fast on the cheek before he set her down.

“Hello Uncle, Mac! Now babies please…” She rested her hands on her hips, imitating Mac.

“Upstairs.” He grinned. Aileen grabbed Kenzy’s hand and the girls ran off to the nursery as they passed Logan who had come downstairs.

“Hey Ryan.” He greeted with a high-five. “Let’s check out the new bike Uncle Danny got for me.” The boys then ran outside, almost stumbling over Jethro and Danny.

“Where’s Jordan and Abby?” Mac asked Jethro as he noticed there was no one else coming out of the car. Jethro glared at Mac, while Danny scratched the back of his head…

Looks for Jordan an Abby...

“Where’s Jordan…?” Stella asked as she saw Mac shutting the door while Jethro and Danny stood in the hallway. When the three of them said nothing she walked down the stairs. “Will one of you bright sparks start talking?” She folded her arms and gave Jethro one of his own glares.

“She wanted to be dropped off at the lab to start working on the case.” Jethro calmly stated.

“What case?” She looked quizzically at Mac. “Taylor!” She said impatiently. Mac’s hands went for his pockets while he walked over to Stella.

“Danny and I baited her back to New York with a faked case.” He looked down holding back a part of their plan. Danny leaned back against the door.

“Crap!” Danny cursed. “We should have seen that coming.” He sighed.

“The lot of you are knuckleheads from the heart!” Stella groused as they heard Sadie cry upstairs. “She’s avoiding them.” She pointed her finger up the stairs.

“Knowing Jordan she’ll probably convince Flack to leave his apartment to her so she can crawl into her shell again.” Mac concluded.

“Any other good ideas?” Jethro rolled his eyes and sat on the stairs.

“We’re gonna make her crawl out of it.” Stella said determined. “Who’s at the lab, Mac?”

“Sheldon and Sid.” Mac replied. “Why?”

“Danny, you call Flack and tell him not to fall for any of Jordan’s tricks in case she contacts him.” Danny got up and reached for his phone. “Mac, I need you to get in touch with Sheldon. Tell him to keep her occupied with whatever evidence, doesn’t matter what.” Mac took his orders from his wife and went to the living room and made the call to Sheldon. Stella took out her own cell and dialled a number.

“What’s your plan?” Jethro asked.

“Sid…” She held her finger up for Jethro to wait. “I need you stand-by with Jordan. She’s at the lab.” She informed him. “I’m coming over with Sadie.” She hung up after Sid told her that he would be there.

“Have you lost it, Stella?” Jethro followed her upstairs. “All hell could break loose.”

“It can’t get worse than it already is.” Stella picked up Sadie and handed her over to Jethro. He gently took the baby and softly patted her back.

“At least tell me what you’re up to!” Jethro demanded.

“You’re gonna cry for mummy, aren’t you?” Stella then wiggled her brows and took the pacifier from Sadie’s mouth. The baby girl immediately started to cry…

When Jethro and Stella had settled Sadie in to the car, she drove over to the lab to confront Jordan with the baby and get her back to her house.

“You sure that this is going to work?” Jethro asked as they walked in to the lab. Stella nodded her head.

“Jordan is in pain, but she’s a mother as well. Trust me, Jethro.” She patted his arm. “But I need you to stand close by, cause she could break first before it gets better. That's why I called Sid in as well.”

They stopped in the break room waiting for Sheldon to show up with Jordan. When Stella saw Abby also she jolted in fear that it cause their plan to fail.

“Damn it, Sheldon!” Jordan complained. “You made us all come from Washington for that little shit of evidence?” She cursed. Abby distanced herself as she saw something move in the corner of her eye.

“Jethro.” Stella whispered and motioned as Abby had noticed them. Jethro showed himself holding his finger on his lips for her not to give them away. Signing with his hands he told her what to do. Abby carefully nodded and returned to Sheldon and Jordan.

“Jordan…” She interrupted her cursing at Mac and Danny. “There’s no point in getting angry. Sheldon, I need you to show me that gunshot residue again.”

“The gunshot residue?” Sheldon gave Abby a doubtful look.

“Now!” She snapped. “We’ll be right back, Jordan.” She then dragged Sheldon along.

Jordan was left in the break room. Still angry at the lack of evidence she walked of to the coffee machine and got herself a large black coffee. While she was took a sip of the coffee to relax Jethro set the maxi-cosi in the corner of the break room. He then carefully took the pacifier from Sadie like Stella had told him and rejoined Stella as they kept out of sight.

“This is cruel.” He whispered to Stella and closed his eyes. Stella slapped his arm as she observed Jordan’s reaction to the crying baby…

Jordan was numbed as she heard the crying of a baby. She looked around in the break room and checked if anyone was there. When she didn’t get a reply she moved to the sound of the crying baby. She stopped in her tracks as she saw the little girl cry. For a moment she didn’t move and closed her eyes. A tear rolled from her eye.

Jethro swallowed deep as he saw his wife squeezing her fists and fighting the memory of their unborn son. Stella rubbed his shoulder in support to let Jordan fight her demons. Jordan then slowly moved to the baby girl, gathering all her strength not stop and run off. She sat down on the floor next to the maxi-cosi and lifted the baby up.

“Hey sweetie…” She spoke softly through her tears. “Where did you come from?” She gently laid the baby against her chest. “You don’t have to cry…” She whispered as she patted the baby’s back. Slowly Sadie started to react to Jordan’s comforting voice. When she was almost quiet Jordan laid her in her arms and gently rocked her. Sadie then gurgled.

Stella smiled from the back of the room at the serenity between Jordan and her daughter. A tread dropped from Jethro’s eyes, knowing that this baby was going to get Jordan back to him. They kept quiet while Jordan tenderly placed her finger on Sadie’s mouth. The baby then sucked on Jordan’s fingers and made satisfied noises.

“Hungry, huh?.” Jordan grinned at the baby. “I’m sure your mummy will be here soon to feed you.” She beamed at the baby who held out her little hands. She then started singing to Sadie.

When Jordan was about done Jethro decided right then it was time to join Jordan. He gave Stella a silent nod and quietly sat behind Jordan. He tenderly wrapped his arms around Jordan and rested his head on her shoulders.

“You found Sadie, Angel?” He quietly asked as he silently thanked Stella for her efforts. Jordan laid back in to his chest rocking the baby to sleep.

“Where’s that wicked sister of mine?” She beamed at the baby. Gibbs smirked at Jordan’s comment and softly kissed the back of her head.

“Giving us some time with Sadie.” He said gently. Stella strolled towards Sheldon and Abby who watched from the entrance of the break room. “You okay?” He had to check if she really was. Jordan nodded her head.

“I’m fine now.” She replied. “I was so afraid to face Stella and the twins.” She genuinely admitted. “I’m sorry for giving you a hard time as well, Jethro.” She whispered.

“Never apologize, Angel.” He planted a soft kiss in her neck. “It’s gonna get better now.” He promised.

“It has to be.” Jordan said as they watched Sadie fall asleep. “Wanna help me up?” She smirked. Jethro got up and took Sadie from Jordan as he held out a hand. Jordan took it and he lifted her up from the floor.

“You want to tell me why we’re really here now?” She asked after she tenderly kissed him. Jethro kissed the top of her nose.

“Remember the case-file we put together?” He whispered so Stella wouldn’t here. She wiggled her brows letting him know that she did. “Let’s work out those plans for Mac and Stella.” He then handed Sadie over to Jordan again.

“Hi Jordan.” Stella stood in front of them and smiled at the couple. Jordan gratefully hugged Stella.

“I owe you.” She said and handed Sadie over to her mother.

“Jordan, you haven’t forgotten that this is what we do, right?” The girls pulled in to another hug “Now let’s go home, I’m starving and so is this little one.” Jordan. Jethro got the maxi-cosi and walked laid his arm around his wife as they then went back to Stella’s home for the dinner that Mac had prepared.
