Helgenberger's Husband To Play Willows' Love Interest?

CSI Files

Captain
Catherine Willows' upcoming love interest on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation may be played by none other than <font color=yellow>Marg Helgenberger's</font> real-life husband <font color=yellow>Alan Rosenberg</font>.

The news was revealed by <font color=yellow>Michael Ausiello</font>, the TV Guide columnist who recently gave away that Willows' mother will be played by "an actress with two Oscar nods and five Golden Globe wins under her belt," a description that seemed to fit only Swedish-born singer <font color=yellow>Ann-Margret</font> (story). In the latest edition of his Ask Ausiello column, Ausiello wrote that the producers of the original CSI are searching for a "name" actor to play a potential love interest for Catherine Willows.

"This person has one Emmy nomination under his belt," Ausiello wrote, "for a guest-starring role on a current NBC drama." This time around, Ausiello's code wasn't as easy to decipher, as this description applies to West Wing guest star <font color=yellow>Oliver Platt</font>, ER guest stars <font color=yellow>Alan Rosenberg</font>, <font color=yellow>Vondie Curtis-Hall</font> and even <font color=yellow>Ewan McGregor</font>. However, as eagle-eyed Talk CSI member <font color=yellow>'abc'</font> noted, Alan Rosenberg is actually the real-life husband of actress Marg Helgenberger, a coincidence that seems impossible to ignore.

54-year old Rosenberg most recently was a regular cast member on the CBS cast show The Guardian, and before that had starring roles on Cybill, Civil Wars, L.A. Law and soap opera Ryan's Hope. He's also had a recurring role on Chicago Hope, and appeared in the fourth episode of ER, "Into That Good Night," for which he earned his one Emmy nomination. He has been married to Marg Helgenberger for over 15 years; they have a son whose name is Hugh.

As for the character Rosenberg would be playing, CSI executive producer <font color=yellow>Carol Mendelsohn</font> provided a few details to TV Guide. "He's a criminal defense attorney that she meets in a bar," she said. ""[The casting] will be a real surprise for the audience if we can pull it off."

I don't think it would be a good idea. Catherine Willows has always been interested in younger men since her husband's death. Catherine is 42, so I think Alan Rosenberg is too old to play Cath's new love interesr

Isn't she supposed to be having an affair with Warrick? She going twofer?

That guy will try to make out with Catherine, but she doesn't want it. Soon after he becomes a murder suspect. That's the story so far.

Yeh, i sort of agree with you!

And what I'm wondering is this: How will this be a surprise for the audience if they've pretty much just confirmed it's going to occur?

I could believe her going for an older man, though she's batting 1000 on finding younger men. She's been alone for a while with...er...quite a drive to not be alone. If he was her type otherwise, I could see it.

What I CAN'T see is Alan Rosenberg (Ira on "Cybill") playing a character that would be Catherine's type. I mean, she likes bad boys or ones who are a little edgy. I can't say "Alan Rosenberg" and "...portraying the edgy..." in the same sentance. Then again, if I'd seen Marg Helgenberger on a talk show BEFORE I saw CSI and was told what her character was like, I'd have fallen out in the floor laughing.

What would be funny would be if it was one of the others, and they made the description fit him too on perpose. But, it could be him.

P.S. Catherine aside, MH and AR do make a cute couple off-screen. I just looked up some pics to make sure I was thinking of the right guy.

It isn't a good idea... It's like you don't work at your normal job with your spouse, why would you act with him? Unless you're doing a documentary on your life together...

What could possibly be wrong with M.H. and A.R. working together for a week or so?

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman worked together in "Eyes Wide Shut" and they... er... bad example.
Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger starred in "The Getaway"...
Brad Pitt was a guest on Jennifer's show "Friends"...
Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz...
Roseanne Barr and Tom Arnold...
David Caruso was in a TV movie "For Love and Honor", where he worked with his second wife-to-be, Rachel Ticotin...

DON'T DO IT, MARG!!! DON'T!!!

They worked so many times together (Ryan's Hope, Prtners Giving up the ghost), and they are still together! Hopefully CSI won't destroy their marriage!

 One small step for that post, one GIANT LEAP...period.

There's more actors who DON'T work together that break up than there are ones that do. There's no reason to be pessimistic here. If they're happy now, they'd be happy if they worked together. (And, actually, if it is him, the episode was already filmed!)

well in real life they are only 8 yrs apart Alan 54 and Marg 46.

I am guessing that if Marg can be 46 (while Catherine is 42) that Alan can also be dropped in age.
Besides doesn't look to 54 which is good for him, and from the looks of their work in the past together, this might be good, besides its not totally known how long he will be playing her love interest.
