Head of the Swing Shift

Mac lay in the warm comfort of their bed. The city lights crept through the blinds on the window. He watched the ceiling fan circle round. His eyes tried to shut but the motion of the fan kept him from sleeping.
Her head nestled in the crook of his neck. He felt her warm breath as she slept. He placed a hand on the small bump forming in her belly. She stirred some and flicked her eyes open.
“Mmm, you’re awake,” she muttered.
“Have I told you about my father?
