CSI Files
Captain
Hill Harper (Dr Sheldon Hawkes) is 'outstanding'.
The nominees for the 39th NAACP Image Awards were announced on January 8 in Beverly Hills, California. Harper's role on CSI: New York was nominated in the category for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series. Also in the category are two other CBS actors: Dennis Haysbert (The Unit) and Jimmy Smits (Cane).
The purpose of the NAACP Image Awards is to acknowledge projects and people that promote diversity in the arts: television, recording, literature and motion pictures. More than 1,200 entries were submitted for consideration this year. A special committee of 300 industry professionals and NAACP leaders from around the country took those entries and selected five nominees in each of 44 separate categories. NAACP members then voted on the nominees, and the winners will be announced live on February 14th.
"Stand Up and Be Counted" is the theme of the awards show this year, encouraging the public to take part in the presidential election and to be socially conscious about human and civil rights issues. The NAACP is also working to make the ceremonies more eco-friendly in order to recognize the importance of the environmental crisis. The 39th NAACP Image Awards will be hosted by Tyra Banks and will air live on Fox February 14 from 8:00pm-10:00pm ET/PT.
