I have to say that I agree with Hawkes, those women did the community a favor. And Lindsey as a woman and a mother saying that she's a cop first was the most self righteous statement of the night.

The problem is though, those women didn't have the right to commit murder.

And while the second victim may have been a scumbag who should still have been serving time, the fact remains that he *had* served the time he had been sentenced to.

Those women were sloppy enough to start with, sooner or later they were going to target somebody who *hadn't* commited the crime they were accused of. That's why vigilanteism is illegal.

I agree being a vigilante is wrong, but as La_Guera pointed out, Lindsay got to kill the person who was tormenting her famliy free and clear. She even got a medal for it. For her to not show any empathy was ridiculous, self-righteous and stupid.

It's called an 'imminent threat'. Shane Casey was in her house with her child and had a gun in his hand. He wasn't there for any purpose other than to cause harm to her and her family. She used lethal force to prevent a serious crime. *that* is why she got a medal. If she'd gone out and stalked Shane Casey before putting a bullet in his brain when he didn't pose a threat, she would have been (deservedly) charged with murder.

I get that he was an imminent threat. I still don't agree with the medal because if she got one all cops who shoot a suspect/criminal should then get one - but that's another topic. What I don't get is her absoulte lack of ANY empathy for the victim of a crime especially since she played the victim card to the hilt in S3 and also got to take out Casey. Knowing it's wrong to take the law into your own hands and doing your job to arrest someone who does that is the way it should be. Being a cold hearted bitch about it is not. But Lindsay is almost always a cold hearted bitch unless things somehow relate to her, so I guess it shouldn't have surprised me.

Yeah what they did was wrong. But I do see Hawkes' point of view.

Rewatched it again along with some Cold Case episodes where the victims truly were scum of the earth. Those are the episodes that make you think long after its ended.
The system isn't perfect and in many cases it sucks. We've all seen or heard of real life cases where a $#@ gets off with a slap on the wrist.
On one hand, the justice system clearly failed many of these victims. On the other hand, you can't allow vigilante justice. It may start with killing scumbag rapists or child predators but it won't stop there. And if one of the people turns out to be innocent, as has been shown in episodes of all three CSIS? There is no do over in cases like that.
Sad to say but some prison time is warrented in this case. While the book thrown shouldn't be a hardcover, it can't be a lightweight paperback either.

Upon watching the Season 4's "Commuted Sentences," I realize that they really pretty much redid that episode and not as well. Kind of bummed me out.

Indeed, I liked that one so much better than this one. In both cases though, Mac is sure to let the women know just how bad they are for taking the law into their own hands, even though the system DID fail them.

Yay for rare continuity....i guess? :borg:

I will freely say (and one poster pointed this out already) that as a Cold Case fan as well, I felt they addressed the issue of victims taking the law into their own hands far better than this one did.
There was the episode where they let the guy who killed his sister's rapist when he was a kid walk but by and large they did arrest people who had taken the law into their own hands.
Unlike Mac and H though, they were far less judgemental and hypocritical when they did it. In many cases, they even admit that some of the victims were scumbags and that what was done to them was wrong, but they still had to be taken in.
