Detective O'Riley was one of those characters that while absent for many seasons, you always hoped he would pop up in an episode with his scathing sarcasm. I think his line from the Pilot episode "Here comes the nerd squad." is a classic.

Such a shame to pass away at a young age... he will be missed.

I'm surprise by that. Did they said how he died? Last time I checked on him on IMBd, he lost all the weight. He is so young in his 60.

I know this is a dead thread but I thought I would clarify the question left unanswered.

My father passed of an extremely aggressive prostate cancer, going from a clean bill of health to stage three cancer in less than a year. He was symptom free for the first 3 years, the following 2 showing a marked decline in his health.

He loved CSI in particular and always hoped they would bring him back. Most of what he believed kept Sgt. Detective Ray O'Reilly from returning was the fact that he had lost more than 100lb pursuing a healthier lifestyle about 4 years before the cancer.

Thank you for the update. We all enjoyed your Dad's role on CSI.

So sorry for your loss. Your father had many fans here. Loved him in his episodes, and it would have been great to see him come back for more.
