The next few days passed slowly. Mac had to have daily bandage changes that were somewhat painful at times, and the areas of burned skin had to be debrided, cleaned of dead tissue to prevent infection. Mac also had to keep the joints affected by the burns moving, doing therapy so they wouldn't tighten up as they began to heal. He was cheered a little by visits from Stella and the others, who were eager to hear any news on how he was doing, and keep him updated as much as they were allowed to on what was happening at work.
After several days, the doctor desided it was time to see how Mac's remaining eye was doing. When the bandage was removed to be changed, he was there and snipped the stitches thad had held the lids closed as the eye rested and healed.
Mac opened the eye, blinked, focused. Sadly, things were still rather blurry, near impossible to make out. He could follow the doctor's pen light okay, and see masses of color, but nothing he could easily make out.
"I don't want you to panic" said the doctor. "You did hit your head, and it's quite possible your brain needs moree time to heal in that area. Some patients do take a period of weeks or months to regain clear vision, and that may happen with you. There is also a small amount of scarring that may need to be repaired surgically later on, once you're more healed. If your vision does improve some more over time, you can of course improve it even more with glasses or a corrective contact lens."
"All I have to say is that things better improve" Mac said after the doctor left. "I can make do if I have to, I guess, but it's harder to keep hoping when I know I'm like this. It makes things seem...well,dark."
"I'm sure it'll get better...your eye needs time to heal just like the rest of your body. Just don't strain it and let it rest...take things slowly." Stella replied.
"I'll do my best. I'm just glad that between you, Flack, Danny,Hawkes, and Lindsay, I'm being kept from losing hope altogether. Mainly because of you. Thank you for being there for me."
"I'm glad to do it." she responded.
Mac was so anxious to tell her something more, but he was nervous, unsure how she'd react. He was afraid of hurting their friendship. He had to mentally prepare himself, decide how to approach things, and hope he didn't blow it.
I want to get to the i love yous but don't want to rush lol and it's getting late. Hopefully we might get it next time. I hope I'm doing okay with this fic.
