Everything begins with a thought (Gil/Lady Heather)

Chapter 5

(Later that day, the night shift starting)

“Have you seen him tonight?” asked Brass.
“Nope. I think he was gone for the whole shift. Sara even asked me about him. I wasn’t sure what to tell her” answered Catherine.
“You should’ve told her the truth. Painful but fair. What do you think?”
“Well, if he stayed with Heather then yes, but…”
“You still doubt that? Did you see how he was looking at her?”
“Yeah…”Catherine smiled.” I guess you’re right. I think Grissom and Heather would make a fascinating couple. You know, an entomologist and a dominatrix.” Catherine truthfully liked Heather. She didn’t have anything against Sara, but somehow she didn’t fit with Gil.
“I don’t know. I’m not the biggest fan of fetishists.” said Brass ironically. “I find Lady H kind of creepy. You can’t deny that she’s a beautiful woman, but I don’t really think her stilettos, leather clothes and whips are attractive.”
“Oh come on. Do you really think that he’s better of with Sara?! I honestly believe that he needs a strong woman. One that can handle his withdrawal, and maybe even make him open up. A woman who, I dare to say, can challenge him in all possible ways. And I simply can’t see Sara as one. Besides, we shouldn’t forget the age thing. You said it yourself, when they’re together it looks as if Gil could be her father.”
“Maybe, I don’t think we’re the ones to decide what’s best for Gil. It’s not our business. BUT!! It will be our business when he’ll compromise this case.” Now in a serious tone said Brass.
“Yes, because Heather is the serial killer that we’re looking for” sarcastically answered Catherine.
Sara entered the room. She looked irritated.
“Has anybody seen Grissom tonight?”
“Hello to you too. And no, but shift just started. He should come soon. Did you speak with Warrick?” Catherine was anxious to change the subject.
“No. Why?”
“He found some saliva on the second victim’s clothes.”
“Are you serious? So we finally have something useful.”
“Not really, we don’t have what to compare it to. And besides, Greg and I didn’t find absolutely anything useful in third victim’s apartment.” Brass said.
“Hey, you know who she is? How? Why I don’t know anything?” now Sara looked really angry.
“I don’t know, I thought Greg told you. We spoke to Lady Heather, she knew the last victim, maybe Grissom found anything in her room?” Brass turned to Catherine.
“So you left him in the fetish club…With Lady Heather…” Sara looked confused.
“Yeah… He was processing the vic’s room. Hey. Speaking of Lady H…” said Brass with a huge smile on his face.
Then both women noticed her. Lady Heather was wearing one of her floating skirts, long black high-heeled shoes, and a black leather corset with black jacket on it. She was coming towards the three people.
“Good afternoon Captain Brass, I arrived as fast as I could. Ms. Willows.” Heather’s voice was low and soft and calm as always.
“Lady Heather this is Sara Sidle, Sara this is Lady Heather” Catherine introduced the two women awkwardly.
“I called Lady Heather because I believe that she might know who the other victims are.” Brass explained. “I hope I didn’t interrupt your..ehh… whatever you do during days.”
“My sleep Captain Brass, but no, I was still up when you called me.”
“I think we should get going.” Brass said and they left for the morgue.
As Lady Heather was walking off, Sara looked at her back and started thinking. That was the woman the whole lab liked to whisper about. Her AND Grissom. She heard the rumours few years ago. Now that Sara met her, she wasn’t that surprised. Lady Heather was a really attractive woman. But Sara still didn’t want to believe that the rumours were true. She IS a fetish club owner. Could Grissom really “get involved” with someone like that? And what about last night? Sara and Grissom have agreed to meet after shift, but he didn’t show up. What if he was with Lady Heather. Sara felt that something was wrong between them. He was getting colder. But Sara thought it was because of this case. No… It can’t be true. Could Grissom actually leave Sara for someone like Lady Heather, a dominatrix, a freak? Sara just chased away this kind of thoughts.
Few minutes later Grissom came in. He looked “fresher” that usually.
“Good morning.” He greeted Catherine.
“Well good morning to you.” She was silent for few moments, fighting herself. “ If I may ask, where were you last night? I mean you didn’t really come back from Heather’s dominion... or did I miss that?”
Grissom smiled. He knew he’ll have to say something to his co-workers.
“I… I king of… got stuck in there.”
“Oh, yes… Of course, but you’ll need something more conclusive for Jim. You know Heather came here just few minutes ago. She left with Brass to check out other victims. Maybe she knows them too. She met Sara. I think she understood where you were gone for the whole shift. And you should know, Sara IS looking for you. Good luck.” She smiled and left because Sara was coming, looking directly at Grissom.
“Hey Grissom, is everything Ok? You didn’t show up yesterday, I thought that something happened.” Sara tried to look sincerely worried, but Gil understood that she was just acting to see what he’ll tell her. That was one of the things that made Grissom doubt about his happiness with Sara. If she knew him at least a little bit, she would’ve simply asked him for the truth.
“I think we should talk Sara.” He saw how her expression changed. “Let’s go to my office.”
When they’ve reach it Grissom closed the door and pointed for Sara to sit down.
“Sara, I’ve been thinking for some time…”
“Oh you can’t be serious!” she didn’t let him finish.
“Don’t say you didn’t see this coming. Sara, honestly, can you imagine us together? As a family?”
“Yes!” she was raising her voice.
“You really can? Well I can’t. That’s why I think we should end this. And we should end it as silently as we started it because we both can get fired.” He felt angry for her acting so childish.
“It’s because of her? That freak?” Sara stood up and was walking around Gil’s office.
“Sara, calm down, and no it’s not because of her. But I’m not going to lie to you, Heather did help me to make my choice.” He was trying to calm himself down.
“But you’re normal. I mean, you don’t need whips or something like that! You were happy with me, and I’m not a fetishist or whatever that bitch is!” Sara was shouting. Grissom was getting scared that other people will hear them. Suddenly Catherine entered the office.
“Guys, you should lower your voices a little bit.” She was smiling uncomfortably.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.” Sara waved.
“Sara, it’s not about being submissive or dominant. It’s not about fetishism. And as long as we’re on that, don’t call Heather bitch, at least when I’m around.”
“I’ll just leave because I shouldn’t be hearing this.” As Catherine was leaving Gil’s office she noticed Brass coming towards her.
“So, did she recognize them?”
“No, but she did recognize what kind of cuffs make that king of scars. That might help us. I was on the way to tell Grissom.” As Brass said that, Sara’s voice came from the office. Words weren’t clear enough to understand.
“What is going on there?” Brass looked shocked.
“I think he’s braking up with her. You should’ve heard what…” Catherine didn’t have the chance to finish her sentence because Sara opened the office door loudly and walked toward the exit of the building. Few moments later Grissom came out too.
“I have to see Greg. I’ll be right back.” He said and left.

(Walking to see Greg, Grissom’s POV)

That was bad. But surprisingly I feel relieved. Now I won’t have to be careful with my every step, won’t have to worry about Sara’s every word. I know I hurt her, but it certainly wasn’t necessary to make everything so hard. She knew it was coming. We were drifting apart for quite some time now. I guess Heather just made me understand that I have to end everything sooner that I thought. Heather… She is just like me in so many ways. That is why I know how it was hard for her to show her emotions, to show her real self to me. Especially after the way I treated her. Later, when we were having tea I wanted to apologize again but she stopped me. She told me that everything had happened in the past, we couldn’t change it. I couldn’t help but smile to that. I saw that at first she was really tensed. But later her words, her voice started sounding more and more like the first time we were having tea. We were talking, flirting, looking at each other all night. First time in this whole week I completely forgot my work. It scares me a little bit. I mean, I can’t believe how she makes me feel. Here I am, anxious to see her like a teenager before his first date. But it is true. I want to see her. I need to see her. Last night it felt so good to simply sit with her, talk to her. She gives me some kind of calmness. And her lips, God it was good to kiss her again. To remember how it feels to hold her body so close to mine.

“Grissom, I think we might have something” Greg broke off Gil’s thoughts.
“What? What do you mean?”
“Police just caught a man who apparently has escaped from some mental hospital. The officer that called us said that the man is mumbling something about dead women. We should really check it out. What do you think? I mean, it’s been a week. Three victims. We should take every chance.” Greg looked really excited.
“Yes, of course. Take Nick with you. Make sure you get the man’s DNR. We’ll compare it against the saliva Warrick found.”
Greg left. Grissom was feeling slightly more optimistic. Maybe this will be the end. He was able to deal with almost all crimes. But when it came to children and serial maniacs- it always used to get him.

--------------------------------------------------------

By the end of shift they have wrapped the case. It turned out that the man from mental hospital actually was the killer they’ve been looking for. Everybody looked so relieved. Catherine knocked on Grissom’s doorframe.
“Gil, the whole team is going to have breakfast together. Even Brass. Will you join us?”
“I’m afraid I have other plans.” Gil smiled.
“Really? Why do I think that I know what you’re talking about?” she asked teasingly.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Of course you don’t.” Catherine left his office leaving Gil smiling.

One of dominion girls let Gil in. He went straight to Heather’s private rooms. As he walked to the table with already prepared tea he noticed her in the other side of the room.
“Heather” he said.
“Gil”
“Am I late?” he asked playfully.
“No. You’re just on time.” She came to him and out her arms around his neck. He couldn’t resist the temptation to kiss her. When they broke the kiss because of the shortage of air Gil looked at the teapot and asked” Is the tea already made?”
Heather looked deep in to his blue eyes and answered in a low seductive voice “Gil, I will remake the tea later.”
