Episode 8x18 - "Dishonor" **CONTAINS SPOILERS**

That ending was so sad :( You can hear the desperation in H's voice when he told Kyle to come back no matter what.

Overall the story line was great IMO. It touched on a problem that has become prevalent in our day and age, trying to find peace and balance within oneself between your traditions and your freedom in a modern society. And its not just among Muslims. I can honestly say that I understand the dilemma the younger characters face. Standing for what you feel is right can have harsh effects between generations.

Although I felt robbed because there wasn't much screentime for Ryan (boy, was he looking good!), I understand that it was Horatio's episode and that was handled very well. I think it was one of David's best performances in a long time. Very touching and believable. Very down-to-earth, emotional-filled episode. The rest of the team didn't have much to do, however. I thought some scenes dragged out a little longer than necessary (in order to fill time?), which is unfortunate considering a hot Ryan was not being utilized enough. Walter pulled a "Frank"--making comments that were unsympathetic and harsh, so much so that Horatio had to tell Walter to step away. Again, Walter is coming across as a little too pushy and cocky for a beginning CSI. Ryan put him in his place in an earlier episode, and now the boss had to.

It was an okay episode and it was a bit boring. Finally Miami gave a more realistic story (not the murder - burning a guy to death is brutal), so this is nice. Typical Horatio/Kyle bonding, Kyle is still quite the kid. I thought it was nice to see the switching of pairings between our characters and glad to see Natalia back, after her vacation. ;) The ending from the mother admitting killing, till the very end with Horatio had good emotional moments from everyone involved.

 at Kyle checking out the waitress. Loved Horatio going, "subtle". :guffaw: And Kyle saying "I think she likes me". Horatio: It's probably the uniform. :) Kyle: More like the man wearing it. :guffaw: Very cute scene.

I loved that. Really it was a great opening seeing the personal stuff & having it roll right into the crime plot -- very nice indeed, & most importantly I didn't have to gag. :p I liked that it was casual also -- father/son having breakfast just chatting....very nice to see. ;)

I enjoyed it from beginning to end. As others pointed out, there wasn't much of the other characters but honestly I wasn't expecting it so, I'm cool. It was enough for me that H/Kyle got thier bonding moments, H was seen natural & emotional but not overdone at all, & that a CSI (Natalia) asked how Kyle was doing.

The end....wow. I geeked out when H told Kyle 'I love you' & that he had to come back alive.

A+

Wow, that must have been a really boring episode, not many people bothered to leave a review...usually it's like 3 pages at this time...

Hmmm I have many many differents thought about this episode.

I loved the idea they wanted to give us an episode just for H and Kyle and I really love how they handled it. I actually wasn't that hopeful and I was gladly surprised.

The rest of the episode made me yawn and made me roll my eyes. Don't get me wrong, but I felt something wasn't right with the whole episode.

I'm not a muslim and I'm quite sure I don't know a lot about it, but I think they portrayed the stereotype of the typical muslim family in an Western country: usually the muslim girl find a an western boyfriend and the family of the girl doesn't accpet it....most of the time they alo come to murder the guy and/or the girl. Well the fact the father didn't accept this relationship and wanted to kill his daughter didn't surprise me at all and I find it like the same old story/stereotype .
I'm not saying that muslim culture isn't like this, but I think they didn't consider the fact that not all the muslim people are like this family.

Another thing that kind of annoyed me and, at the same time, made me laugh (yep I had to chuckle in front of the pc while watching it ) was when H said they had a translator for Farsi.....Kyle. I swear as much as I love the idea that guy can be useful....I had to roll my eyes when he was reading that document.

Ryan looked very cute, but except for the heel theory, he didn't have anything to do in the episode. Natalia had few more scenes, but, then again, pretty normal investigation. I won't say anything about Jesse and Calleigh 'cause they always do the same things during this season

loved the beginning banter showing how much our 'soulja boi' Kyle is grown up off screen..Loved seeing Horatio relaxed, eating breakfast like a regular guy w/out shooting anybody; great rescue attempt and holding onto his son;good strong emotional stuff without overdoing it all..Kyle is back better than ever-slightly angry still but that's to be expected-loved the ending w/daddy H saying come home no matter what and the mutual I love you was long overdue...give this episode an A+..will be keeping it on my DVR as long as possible to rewatch it since it'll be repeats for next week..

Is it just me or is Horatio's beginning scene the only time this show has ever shown any of the main characters actually eating something? I know they've shown them drinking stuff before, but I don't recall them ever showing them eating before now.

Actually, I think I remember Alexx eating a sandwich while discussing on a case with Tim back in s1

I loved seeing Kyle eat BACON since I don't think they can over in the middle east-it's forbidden food even for our troops I think...funny...

I agree Florry. I'm sure Muslim children often have disagreements with their parents. HOWEVER they don't ALWAYS end up with dad killing his daughter as the media would have us believe which is why I was a little concerned about this episode. It wasn't as bad as I feared it could have been but it still left me with a little "WHA?"

Well I'm done discussing politics. Other than the muslim angle, I thought it was an good episode. I honestly thought the neighbour did it but I was wrong. I enjoyed Frank telling him off though and glad that he got a little more screen time as did Natalya..

Walter seemed out of character but Horatio and Kyle were spot on

Rating 3.5/5

I didn't really like the epi. I thought it lack a lot of luster after the first 5 minutes, I often found myself bored and ended up cruzing on the internet while watching the epi. I did like seeing daddy h and kyle finally together again.

Interesting episode.

The Good:
- Opening scene (especially Horatio's "subtle" comment)
- Kyle's army buddy being a Muslim. Not the typical "Westerner boyfriend" for the daughter of the victim, and not the typical soldier.
- Equal screen time for everyone. Though the main focus of the ep was Kyle and Horatio, all the team members were fairly equally involved in the investigation.
- Seeing Kyle in the process of becoming an adult. Obviously, he has learned a strong sense of responsibility, respect, etc. At the same time, he still isn't perfect- we see him struggle to control his anger at the situation.
- Ending scene. Didn't make me cry, but it did have a strong impact. I know what it's like to see a family member in the military ship out. I'm sure this resonated strongly with the many who have been in the same situation, as well as those who haven't.

The Bad:
- The victim's family story. Been there, done that. Parent doesn't approve of child's significant other, someone ends up dead. Throw in some stereotypes, and blah blah blah. They made it the same old crap instead of a quality introspective on a nonwestern culture.
- No mention of Julia. Yeah, I don't like her, but she is the kid's mother. They didn't have to show her, just have Horatio ask "Have you talked to your mother?" at breakfast, or Kyle could've mentioned saying goodbye to her before the ending scene.
- Natalia wearing white pants to a CRIME SCENE. And not just ANY crime scene, but one where there was a FIRE. You know, ASH and BURNT RUBBER and stuff like that. I know it wasn't Eva's fault, the cast doesn't dress themselves. But someone could've thrown wardrobe a bone and said "save the white pants for a death by poisoning at a maid-maintained rich dude's house"

Overall, I'd say 3/5.

At the beginning it had the makings of a hate crime eppie but evolved into a protrait of a clash of old world traditions and the "Americanization" of the second generation which was at least different and orginal.

I definitely see what you are saying. And a sterotypical Muslim family in the extreme.

More Random Thoughts:

I agree with everyone who feels this was one of DC's best acting performaces. His fatherly concern and affection for Kyle was real but reined in. Their parting at the end was a touching moment, especially when they told each other they loved each other, and hugged. If they kill off Kyle, I will SCREAM:(

Kyle looked so grown up but his loud defense of his friend shows that he is still very young.

Loved Horatio when he is in the lab.

Everyone got more screentime (and pretty evened out) than I thought they would, but this was, after all, Horatio and Kyle's episode.

Is that...no it can't be..NATALIA!!! She got decent screentime and reminded us how good she can be. The only puzzler: why is she wearing white pants in that crime scene?!

Ryan looked hot hot hot and fit and trim in that silky-looking shirt and suit. Blue is his color. Tagged teamed with Walter and worked well with Natalia. Although he had the wrong person, Ryan had the right idea toward solving the case.

Liked Jesse. They seemed to have toned him down quite a bit and he worked well with Calleigh and Natalia. Would have liked to see him working with Ryan.

Maybe I was a bit distracted during the eppie, but for a time I thought it was the neighbor. It did made sense it would be the Mom; the most dangerous animal in creation is a mother protecting her young.

I thought they ditched that stupid split screen.

Tom: Lift carefully, the limbs might fall off--yuck.

Good to see Frank.

All in all, not a horrible episode.

Sorry I'm a little late with this. It's not lack of caring at all. It's a job and a family that come first.

I enjoyed this episode immensely and thought both David and Evan did an exceptional job.

Kyle has grown up a lot, but still stuggles to control his emotions - especially his temper. Horatio has fallen very gracefully into the father role and the ending scene, as many others have mentioned, was extremely touching.

I thought the episode was topical with regard to a loved one who is active military deploying to a dangerous area, and how emotionally devasting it is to say goodbye knowing what they will face. Especially as a parent who feels it is your primary job to protect the person you're saying goodbye to. Sad. And both actors were wonderful, especially David.

I do agree with those who felt the muslim storyline was a stereotype to an extent. I have seen stories such as this in the news, however. And I think CSI Miami was trying to be topical and not necessarily trying to say that a whole ethnicity or religion was reflected in one story.

I really hope that Kyle returns someday. I enjoy the actor a great deal and love the chemistry that Evan and David have.
