CSI Files
Captain
In the new CSI episode, entitled "Bang Bang," a case of domestic abuse escalates into the shooting of an officer and possible endangerment of a main character's loved one.
"Bang Bang" starts off at the Olympia Hotel casinos. Officer Steve Boatright is walking his beat when suddenly he spots two men fighting. He approaches them and tries to get them to stop, but the argument ends with one of the two men pulling out a gun and shooting Boatright twice. Pandemonium breaks at the casinos as everyone starts running. One of the witnesses is Tina Brown, whose husband is in the surveillance room of the hotel, watching the scene unfold.
The scene preceding takes us to the case that began 15 hours before the Boatright shooting. Warrick and Grissom arrive at the scene of the crime, where Janice Cutler has been shot in the face. Her blood and brains are all over the place, and if this is a case of domestic abuse it's one of the nastiest. The CSIs make an interesting discovery in the Cutler's bedroom: a sock under the bed that evidently didn't belong to Mr. Cutler. What makes the discovering interesting is the fact that about once a month, Janice paid a man named Timothy Johnson a hefty amount of money.
Brass and Sara talk to Timothy, who lives in front of the Cutlers and is also their gardener. Timothy admits he was having an affair with Janice because she claimed she was unhappy with her marriage. The night before, they were together in her bed when suddenly her husband Willie came home. Janice urged Timothy to hide in her closet, and while inside Timothy heard the couple arguing. Moments later, Willie opened the closet door and threw Timothy out. Timothy left out the back door and thought that when he left, Janice was still alive. It looks like Timothy wasn't the last person to see Janice breathing, but her husband Willie, who is conveniently missing.
Turns out Janice was not the only one having an affair. Warrick and Nick discover Willie had been seeing a prostitute named Sally. They interrogate Sally, who was "dating" Willie, although these dates invariably ended up with the proverbial exchange of money. Sally thought Willie must've been a travel agent, because he always promised to take her away and even gave her a brochure for Hawaii. She also thought he must've hit the jackpot at some casino, because even though he had new money, he still wore WalMart pants. Sally describes Willie as a harmless, sweet man, but how does a man go from harmless to homicidal? Only one person can answer that question, and to find him the CSIs have to hit the casinos.
15 hours later, Warrick is in the Olympia security room, where he and the surveillance director have just witnessed Boatright's shooting. In the television screens, they clearly see Willie near the scene of the crime. Could he have shot Boatright, too? Warrick watches through the surveillance cameras as Willie takes off, a few officers in pursuit. Willie runs towards the elevators, and at the same time a young African American woman emerges from them. Willie grabs her and dives in. The surveillance director orders the elevator technicians to stop the elevators while Warrick tries to keep a lid on his emotions: the woman Willie took as hostage looked like his wife Tina. Surveillance from inside every elevator at the hotel comes up, but all the elevators are empty. Willie is gone.
