Episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation could provide clues for a long-running investigation into a triple homicide in Brisbane, Australia.
Police officers requested copies of several CSI episodes to aid them in their inquest into the deaths of three siblings found murdered in their home, the Courier-Mail reported.
The Nine Network, which airs the series in Australia on Tuesday nights, told the newspaper it had provided tapes of CSI episodes to the police. Nine's representative did not disclose which instalments of the series the police were analysing, citing the "ongoing nature of the criminal investigation".
Sisters Neelma and Sidhi Singh were found dead together with their brother, Kunal in their home on April 22, while their parents were away in Fiji. Max Sica, said to be "romantically-linked" with Neelma, found the siblings' bodies in a hot spa. The spa has complicated the procedure of dating the time of death, according to the Courier-Mail.
One of the episodes which the police could be studying is season two's "Alter Boys", in which a woman is found dead in a hotel spa. "Catherine and Warrick must determine if the woman found dead in the hotel spa was the victim of negligence, foul play or heat-induced natural causes," according to the official CBS synopsis.
As CSI is a series which prides itself on being as scientifically accurate as possible for a television show, police may also be using the episodes to study the latest forensic techniques. CSI's sets are full of up-to-the-minute scientific apparatus, and are better equipped than many crime labs in the United States.
