"CSI on Fire" Discussion **SPOILERS**

Someone thought we'd like Finn more after this? Ugh. I like her much less. I'm tired of her attitude, her smugness, and her recklessness. Her taking off to Seattle and then going to the suspect's hotel room, etc...geeze. I have no idea what is so great about her that DB felt he had to hire her back. She obviously hasn't changed.

I liked what little we saw of the rest of the cast. But this is another one that I won't bother watching again. Seems like there are way too many of those lately.

BTW, did they even try to see if there were fingerprints on that necklace before they started passing it around and then gave it to the girl's mother??
 
What a Finn overdose. My only favourite Finn moment was the TV and the mug, it actually made me smile. I wanted to like her more, I really did, but it only left me neutral. She was almost in every scene. And the ending... no comment.

I still feel Morgan steals scenes from Greg and is rather unnecessary in the cast. It was nice to see Hodges in the field, outdoor scenes suit him. On the other hand, I was surprised by Doc Robins' reaction to Finn, considering everything that's happened with DB. Which brings us to DB's mention of Internal Affairs, which was only hypocritical and too little too late from the writers. The lab's reputation is gone, DB has crossed the line too many times already, and he's brought an assistant supervisor, with whom he shares a past, who is even worse than him. IA? Too late for that...

I almost forgot Nick and his expert knowledge in bugs, which is just wrong. You can't transfer unique traits from one character to another. Just like Sara won't suddenly become an expert in old Vegas, Nick can't become the bugman of the series. It's just not like Nick to acquire specialised knowledge within a couple of seasons, which took Grissom several years and seminars to acquire.

I agree with a lot of what you said, GSR GR. Especially, 'you can't transfer unique traits from one character to another'. Amen!
I thought the episode was okay from a writing and directing standpoint, and there were some good guest stars, but I don't care to watch it again. And I don't have any 'favorite' Finn moments. Sorry.
Sure, Sara was a loose cannon in the beginning, but she was only in her 30's, and she has matured since then. Finn, on the other hand, is older than Sara, and she is still struggling with authority and legality issues. Why exactly did DB hire her? Morgan seems more mature by comparison.
 
I don't think they transferred unique traits from Grissom to Nick.Grissom was passionate about bugs and his office and home reflected that.His knowledge was used to solve crimes but when he left the need for someone with the ability to study insects at a crime scene didn't stop so Nick stepped up and filled that void.It is canon that he has on his own attended seminars and courses to be able to do that part of the job.For Nick it is something he needs to learn to do his job not a life passion like Grissom.

Yes, at least they didn't just make him an expert overnight without at least mentioning that he had been to seminars, etc.

But Finn...my gosh...she's running around on her own, chasing suspects, leaving town without DB's permission or knowledge....excuse me but is that not EXACTLY what Ray was doing and some of the others getting out of hand and DB was brought in specifically to reign them in?? :wtf: It makes no sense. She should be let go at this point, or DB should be let go because he's not doing what they brought him in to do. (Not meaning I want Danson or DB gone...just that this makes no sense.)

And please...Finn...a small woman...goes waltzing into a serial killer's hotel room and confronts him by herself?? She's going to get herself or someone else killed acting the fool like that.

When the bug showed all of us thought about Grissom I think. Nontheless, forensic entomology is not a trait, is a key instrument of investigation. I think each CSI has a general knowledge about it, as well as about ballistic and so on...They can't overlook insects on a corpse just because Grissom is not there anymore.

Not to mention that all he was really doing was identifying the bugs and what part of the country they came from which if you have the right reference book is something just about anybody could do. :)

IDK. Do most CSI labs have extensive bug knowledge? And can afford to have their CSI's busy doing timelines? Especially in a town with a university that no doubt has a biology department? Entomology students and professors would love the work, I suspect. Better yet, have Grissom off screen as a consult. Now there's a unique (not!) idea.
Personally I think that CM misses Grissom and she enjoys teasing us with the bug data. :)
 
They can always introduce an entomologist/biologist for the bug episodes, it would make sense. In this episode DB didn't seem to have significant knowledge on insects (at least, that's the impression I got at the time) despite having more CSI experience than Nick, who asked for a raise. This shows it's not all that common to be a bug expert and a CSI. Yet, Nick started identifying insects in the field in season 10 (if I recall correctly).

Nick has so many characteristics of his own, he doesn't need to borrow any from others (or any other character for that matter). But, yes, they probably do it this way to keep a connection with the past seasons. :)
 
Nick took courses at his own expense to be able to analyze insects and why do we need to call in experts when one of your CSI's was willing to do that.I get it you miss Grissom and so do I but he's gone and with Nick handling the bugs in no way diminishes what he was to the show.Most people take it as a compliment when someone follows in their footsteps.
 
I thought Finn was okay. Now I just want to give her a slap.

They should have left her in Seattle so she could get therapy from Frasier or Niles.
 
I haven't watched this episode yet, nor any episode since Wild Flowers. Can anyone let me know if Finn has mentioned Moreno either in this episode or any other since Wild Flowers? It seemed like in Wild Flowers that they were still seeing each other, but then I read in this episode that she may have reunited with her ex?

Just curious.....I'm an Enrique Murciano fan and would love to see him return!
 
And it just hit me: Why didn't Finn's kiss have a monkey in between frames? It must have been because so many people were looking forward to it... or not...
