CSI: New York--'Fare Game'

CSI Files

Captain
Synopsis:

A young man, Kyle Vance, stands by the grave of Samuel Cooper whose video message plays on his tombstone, but rather than paying his respects, Kyle drops dead, his shirt covered in blood. When Mac and Stella arrive at the scene the next day, Mac determines Kyle died from a single gunshot wound to the chest. He recognizes Kyle as an assistant district attorney. Kyle's body was found by Jennifer Cooper, Stanley's granddaughter, but she doesn't recognize Kyle. Across town, Detective Maka leads Danny and Dr. Hawkes to the bedroom of Kathleen Dunley, who was found dead, naked and tied up in her bed. Hawkes finds semen on the sheets, and Danny notices a note and flowers from someone named Michel. Danny also spots blood in Kathleen's ear and some odd spotting and bruising in and around her mouth. Puzzled, the CSIs create a humidifier chamber around the body to reveal prints, indicating the killer had something on his hands when he touched her.

Dr. Hammerback confirms that Kyle was killed by a single gunshot wound, but there's no bullet in his chest, and no exit wound. He retrieves some paper from the wound, which he gives to Stella. Stella takes prints off a bit of a balloon found near Kyle while lab tech Adam Ross dusts for prints on Kyle's briefcase. The prints come up positive for one William Tucker, a man with a lengthy rap sheet whom Kyle was building a case against. Detective Flack is familiar with the man and brings him in. Mac has found evidence that Tucker broke into Kyle's apartment--Tucker's blood on the windowsill--but Tucker adamently denies killing Kyle, though he expresses no remorse over the man's death. Stella has learned the paper from Kyle's wound was coated with fast burn powder--it was a blank, meaning the murder may have been accidental. Lindsay has some interesting news--an examination of an office Kyle was renting reveals he was posting as a casting director, a travel agent and a wedding planner. Lindsay discovered another popped balloon at the office, as well as several pictures of people. Many of them have red Xs through them, but one does not: a picture of Jennifer Cooper.

Hammerback tells Danny and Hawkes that Kathleen died of asphxiation and had a full stomach when she died. There were eggs of some kind in her eardrum, which Hawkes takes to incubate. Maka has located Michel Hetu--he's a restaurant owner Kathleen was suing. When Michel is brought in for questioning, he tells the CSIs he wanted to sleep with Kathleen and get her to drop the lawsuit, but denies killing her. When the CSIs get the results of her stomach contents, which include water bugs and duck fetus, Danny immediately thinks of an exotic cuisine special at the Grandview Regent Hotel. Danny and Hawkes pay a visit to Tony Collins, the head chef at the hotel's restaurant, and he tells the CSIs about the $10,000 a plate dinner, even offering them a Peruvian centipede, which Hawkes passes on but Danny gamely eats. Collins recalls Kathleen as being at the dinner the night before with a date, a large middle-aged man. Danny notices a tank of small octopi, which Tony tells them must be eaten properly or else they can be fatal, choking the victim on the way down. Danny and Hawkes take on of the octopi back to the lab and examine it, determining that it is a match to the marks in Kathleen's mouth. Someone fed her the octopus and watched her die.

Even thou I hate the thought of eating octopi - I thought this was a well written and executed episode. It was nice to see the whole team come together in the end. They have been closing on Danny alot - like a reward for working hard for the show. He is such a diverse character he goes the gamut from deep to humerous with such ease. He is a joy to watch.

The scene at the end really was fantastic. It's so rare to see the team all together! I'm not surprised that it revolved around Danny--he seems to relate personally to everyone on the team, and everyone on the team seems to like and care about him. The ending with the bug buffet really was so cute! Pure Danny! :D

I really liked the whole ending too. The reason why is because we got to see the whole team together having some fun. It was nice to watch along with the whole episode.

Yeah, it really was a great family-type moment. It made us look at them as a team rather than a bunch of people who just happen to work together. I think that camraderie between the teams is what makes the CSI shows strong, so it's nice to see NY devoting a little time to it. I think Lindsay and Danny going to see Mac play the guitar in "Stuck on You" was kind of a similar thing.

"Fare Game" was very fast paced. Both storylines were very fun and realistic. The A-story with Mac, Stella and Lindsey was very intriguing and the B-story -- well, the fact that Danny 'ate' that centipede/millipede -- love it.

I'm a fan of exotic foods and such (and by that, I mean the exact same thing they featured on this episode). I love the short segue when they're showing how to prepare the insects. The chef is in "Judging Amy" -- the doctor, ex-junkie something. Hhahahaha.... anyway, when Danny ate that worm, I was like, "wow, that was a live one" -- but during the shot where Carmine is actually putting it in his mouth, the 'worm' is thinner than that of the pede. Hahahha.... nevermind, just some inconsistencies. But itwould be a blast if they really ate those things though. There is a few scenes of Danny w/o the glasses. Again, a nice 'dramatic' addition... esp during the interrogation scene with Hawkes.

Flack....... HOT. That's it, it's official -- ITALIANS ARE HOT! Hahahahah.... that man (Eddie) has the best comic timing and execution, I'm tellin' yah. I so love the chase, coz lately, it's been Danny who's doing all the running (and he doesn't like it hahahah). And Flack holding a gun? Whoo... I don't care if it's a water gun or a blank gun or a real .45 -- hot, hot, hot!

The last scene -- yes, the D/L scene. Again, they played the 'new girl' card. But the last frame of that, the two getting all chummy-chummy -- like a 'date' -- er... those are one of the few times where it was convincing, I have to say. My mom squealed in delight when she saw that. Hahahhah.... she also asked why Flack was there. Well, why not? Lol -- there's enough room for one more cutie. It's nice to show that though, kind of a 'friendship' scene among the team.

Before I go, (coz I have classes) -- Flack's tie -- no comment. :D

Flack was awesome in this episode! I loved how pissed he looked when the girl had the watergun and was wielding it like a real weapon. And his facial expression at the end was priceless!

The Danny/Lindsay scene in this one worked for me too. The stuff in "Stuck on You" through "Cool Hunter" actually seemed fine to me--it was later in the season when things started to really grate.

So the first attempts were subtle. As the season went on it got a little like forcing it down our throats?

Oh well, it was soooo nice to watch it again and seeing Flack in there amongst all the CSI. Rarely that happens since he works with one part of the team and the other gets another detective.

Yeah, at first the Danny and Lindsay stuff was done lightly. But then it got to be every episode and it became apparent there was no real chemistry between them and it got annoying and pointless.

I did like the end scene in the episode because they were all there. It was cute to see Flack among the CSIs--and clearly grossed out by Danny's bug feast!

Flack fits in nicely with them. He looks good in the lab hahahah.

Maybe the producers got a little bit carried away with the D/L possibility. I do hope they drop it already and focus on the other characters and their back stories.

Flack looks good everywhere. ;)

I wonder if the producers realize how a D/L scene every episode, even when they weren't working together, was complete and total overkill. It took something that could have been cute in moderation and just completely overdid it. I felt like I was watching 90210 when I was watching them. I wouldn't object to a natural, graceful pairing with chemistry, but that's not Danny and Lindsay.

Hahhahaa yeah, 90210.

Well, Flack with the CSIs is so cool. Coz Tripp doesn't fit in well with his team of CSIs. Brass is the first homicide detective we saw on CSI so -- he doesn't count hahahah.

I haven't read anything from the producers regarding their motives on the D/L 'relationship'. Maybe because on S1 they worked on a partner basis on cases; they decided to carry that theme over.

Heh, just watched this episode on DVD. Must remember to warn my flatmate - an arachnaphobe - that this is one episode she'll probably want to skip!

I've actually played a similiar game to the one in this ep. Well, played it 1 year in college, helped organize it a few times. We ended up banning water pistols because they were (a) too messy and (b) too unoriginal!

Loved the little 'in-joke' of having the killer be trying out for a part in 'Of mice and men', the same part Gary Sinise played in the 1992 movie!

^The in-joke was great! That made me smile, too. Sinise was fantastic in that role.

The game actually sounded kind of fun! A little too time consuming and intense, but definitely intriguing.
