CSI: Miami - Race Against Time

A/N: The following events take place in the time between CSI: Miami seasons 3 and 4. And, yes, the fact that somebody gets kidnapped in this means that CSI: Miami - Against the Clock is dead.

Kidnapped

INT. MIAMI-DADE CRIME LAB - LOCKER ROOM - EVENING

TEXT
(appears on screen)
Miami, Florida
(fades)


DUQUESNE can be seen sitting in front of a locker marked
"Speedle." It may have been a year since the incident, but
CAINE insisted that the nameplate stay on the locker. DELKO
is walking by the room when he sees DUQUESNE looking at
SPEEDLE's locker and makes his way inside.

DELKO
(sits down next to DUQUESNE)
Calleigh? You okay?

DUQUESNE
(shakes her head a bit
as DELKO disturbs her
from her silent reminiscing)
I know it's been a year, but I
still miss him.

DELKO
(looks from DUQUESNE
to the locker)
I do too, we all do.

DUQUESNE
(looks at DELKO)
I know.
(she smiles and stands up)
I've gotta get home and feed
Twinkle before she starts
scratching up the furniture again.

DELKO
I never thought that cats do that
when they get hungry.

DUQUESNE
(walks away before
muttering to herself
under her breath)
They don't.
(she pulls out her
wallet and looks at a
picture of and the
team from last year
and chokes back tears
before passing WOLFE
on her way out)


EXT. MIAMI-DADE CRIME LAB - PARKING GARAGE - EVENING

DUQUESNE is walking to her car when a man dressed in all
black grabs her and puts a hand on her mouth to keep her quiet.

DUQUESNE
(struggles and breaks
free before turning
and kicking the man in
the side)
Who are you!?

The KIDNAPPER pulls out a tranquilizer gun and shoots
DUQUESNE in the leg with a tranquilizer dart before grabbing
his side as DUQUESNE falls over before falling asleep.

INT. HOUSTON, TEXAS - APARTMENT - HOURS LATER

TEXT
(appears on screen)
Huston, Texas
(fades)


The apartment is quiet, dark, and empty for a few seconds
before the front door is unlocked and a man walks into the
small foyer before flipping a switch and turning on the
light to reveal a familiar face.

National Coverage

INT. HUSTON, TEXAS - APARTMENT - HOURS LATER

SPEEDLE walks over to the television in the living room and
turns it on before making his way to the kitchen which
sports a nice island that has a view of the television. A
REPORTER is standing outside of a location that SPEEDLE
instantly recognizes as the Miami-Dade Crime Lab he leaves
the pantry open and walks over to the couch before sitting
down and turning up the volume.

REPORTER #1 (V0)
Thanks, Jim. The Miami-Dade Crime
Lab is in turmoil right now as
they search for one of their own.
Calleigh Duquesne was reportedly
noticed to be missing several
hours ago when cold case DNA lab
tech Natalia Boa Vista came
across her purse on the ground
next to a black high heel less
than three feet away from CSI
Duquesne's car only hours ago.

SPEEDLE
(watches the report
before speaking in a
low, concerned tone)
Calleigh.

CUT TO:

EXT. MIAMI-DADE CRIME LAB - NIGHT

WOODS pulls up to the lab in a blue sedan and sees the
reporters clamoring around the front of the lab. She gets
out of the car and heads towards the crime lab when a group
of REPORTERS bombards her, interrupting each other to ask
WOODS a question as she starts to jog towards the door.

REPORTER #2
Dr. Woods, is it true that CSI
Eric Delko was the last person
seen with CSI Duquesne before she
clocked out?

REPORTER #3
Dr. Woods, Dr. Woods is there any
update on the search for CSI
Duquesne?

REPORTER #3
Are you going to play a role in
the search for the missing CSI?

CAINE
(steps out of the lab
and runs over to WOODS
before stepping
between her and the REPORTERS)
I want everybody to stay back, we
are trying to run an investigation
into this and it will not do
anybody any good if they're
bombarded on their way into the
lab. Because the information that
we receive through the
investigation may be sensitive,
we will give you information when
we believe the time is right.
Until then leave my men and my
lab alone.

The REPORTERS stand and stare as CAINE turns his back to
them and walks with WOODS into the crime lab.

INT. MIAMI-DADE CRIME LAB - ENTRANCE - SECONDS LATER

Once they are inside and away from the windows, CAINE and
WOODS sit down next to each other on a bench.

CAINE
(turns his head and
looks at WOODS who is
sighing and closing
her eyes)
You okay?

WOODS
No, Horatio, I'm not. I came here
expecting to be able to help and
I got bombarded with questions.

CAINE
It's been like that since Natalia
reported her missing.

WOODS
They asked me if I was going to
be apart of the investigation.

CAINE
You can certainly help.

WOODS
How? I'm a medical examiner and
the only way that I will be of
help is if...
(voice cracking as she
chokes back tears)
if we find her..
(she puts her head on
CAINE's shoulder and
begins to cry)


CAINE
Don't you worry, Alexx we...are
going to find her no matter what.

CUT BACK TO:

INT. HOUSTON, TEXAS - APARTMENT

SPEEDLE is still watching the news report on DUQUESNE's
disappearance.

REPORTER #1 (VO)
According to CSI Eric Delko who
was the last one to see CSI
Duquesne, she was in the locker
room sitting in front of the
locker that once belonged to her
colleague, Tim Speedle who died
last year in the line of duty. It
is still unknown whether or not
this has played a role in the
kidnapping.

SPEEDLE stands up, pulls out his cell phone, and dials a
number before walking to his bedroom and picking up a suitcase.

SPEEDLE
(waits for somebody to
answer on the other
side of the line)
Yeah, Mark it's Speedle. Look,
I'm sorry to call so late, but I
need to take some time off...about
two weeks for now...no, it's not
a vacation it's...it's a family
emergency.

Update time! Oh, and the actual race is going to wrap up quickly, but the story's going to continue. "Race Against Time" was the only title that I could think of.

Homecoming

INT. MIAMI-DADE CRIME LAB - LAYOUT - AN HOUR LATER

TEXT
(appears on screen)
Miami, Florida
(fades)


CAINE, WOODS, WOLFE, and DELKO are all surrounding the table
in the layout room where two boxes of case files are stacked
with five more case files on the table itself.

DELKO
(looks at the boxes
and files from where
he was standing)
Well, these are all of the case
files that Calleigh's worked in
the past six months.

CAINE
Alright, do you guys remember
anybody who could have possibly
wanted to harm Calleigh?

WOLFE
There was one guy last month who
swore he would get back at
Calleigh after her testimony in a
murder case that she had worked
two months ago got his brother
convicted.

DELKO
Which case was that, Wolfe?

WOLFE
(thinks)
Uhhh...I can't exactly remember,
but let me take a look through
the case files from two months ago.

CAINE
No need, now that you mention it,
Calleigh told me about the
incident, she said the man's name
was Daniel Staunton.

WOLFE
(walks over to a
nearby computer and
pulls up a database
before searching for
Daniel Staunton)
Let's see...Staunton...Staunton.
Ah, here he is. He's got an
apartment on Miami Beach.

CUT TO:

EXT. HOUSTON, TEXAS - APARTMENT

TEXT
(appears on screen)
Huston, Texas
(fades)


The streets outside of SPEEDLE's apartment complex were
quiet considering that the sun didn't rise for two hours. A
few seconds later the dark streets were lit up by the sound
of SPEEDLE's Ducati as he sped up the incline that led to
the underground parking level. The bike gained a bit of air
as SPEEDLE gunned it to the edge of the incline and into the
street with a suitcase tied to the back of it.

SPEEDLE
(thinking aloud)
I have a bad feeling that this
isn't going to sit well with
Delko. Having to fake my own
death to get out of potentially
causing the lab to be put under
investigation after Stetler said
that I supposedly mishandled
evidence...then again, I had no
choice.

INT. STAUNTON'S APARTMENT BUILDING - LOBBY

CAINE, WOLFE, DELKO, and MDPD UNIFORMED OFFICER #1 head into
the lobby of the apartment building.

LANDLADY
(steps out of her office)
Excuse me, can I help you?

CAINE
As a matter of fact, you can. I
need access to Mike Staunton's
apartment unit.

LANDLADY
Well, do you have a warrant? I'll
need a warrant.

CAINE
Ma'am we have reason to believe
that Mike Staunton has kidnapped
my CSI.

LANDLADY
The one all over the news?

CAINE
The one all over the news.

LANDLADY
Okay, hold on a second.
(she runs to her office)


DELKO
Wait a second, if he kidnapped
Calleigh, why would he bring her
back to his apartment? You'd
figure that that'd be the first
place we'd look.

CAINE
Some criminals aren't as smart as
they think.

LANDLADY
(returns with a key)
Alright, follow me.
(she heads to the stairs)


CUT TO:

INT. DUQUESNE'S MAKESHIFT PRISON

The KIDNAPPER opens a door to a small room with small vents
on the top. He then walks away for a little bit before
coming back with a tranquilized DUQUESNE in his arms. He
dumps DUQUESNE onto the floor of the makeshift prison which
is the size of an elevator before closing the door and using
his vehicle to drag a heavy block of cement in front of it.

INT. STAUNTON'S APARTMENT UNIT - A HALF HOUR LATER

CAINE, DELKO, and WOLFE meet up in the living room of the
apartment unit. None of them had found anything.

DELKO
I got nothin'.

WOLFE
Same here.

CAINE
(puts his hands on his
hips and looks at the table)
What's that?

DELKO and WOLFE look at the table as well before DELKO picks
up the object in question.

DELKO
It's the bill for a storage unit
at a Public Storage facility off
of Dodge Island.

CAINE
What is the address, please?

DELKO
(reads the address on
the bill)


CAINE
Alright, Delko, call Alexx and
give her the address, she wanted
to know when we get anything that
can help us establish Calleigh's
location.

INT. MIAMI-DADE CRIME LAB - MORGUE - TEN MINUTES LATER

WOODS is pacing around in the morgue when her phone rings.
WOODS checks the Caller ID which reads "Speedle" and quickly
walks into the small bathroom and locks the door before
answering the phone.

WOODS
(whispers)
Timmy? What's wrong?

SPEEDLE (PHONE VO)
Alexx, I saw the news, have they
gotten any leads?

WOODS
They're headed to the Public
Storage on Dodge Island. Why?
Where are you?

SPEEDLE (PHONE VO)
Closer than you think.
(hangs up)
