Grab the brain bleach, torches, hatchets and anything else you can lay your hands on! :mad: The geniuses at CBS has decided that it's cost cutting time for Criminal Minds, and they plan to do so by cutting J.J out (she may be given a few episodes to wrap up her story.), and Prentiss only appearing in a limited number of episodes. :censored: CBS has been trying to cut costs for many of their longer running shows (except Two And A Half Men :angryrazz:)

EW: Breaking: 'Criminal Minds' drops A.J. Cook

There was blood shed on the set of Criminal Minds today, only this time it was behind the scenes.

Sources confirm that producers have opted not to pick up A.J. Cook’s contract option for next season. Which is a fancy way of saying girlfriend was fired.

Meanwhile, fellow cast member Paget Brewster is in talks to remain a series regular, although her episode count is expected to be reduced.

The decision to cut Cook — and cut back Brewster — was made for financial reasons.

EXCLUSIVE: CBS’ Season 6 of its successful crime drama Criminal Minds is trimming the female portion of its cast for what I hear are financial reasons. I'm told the option of series regular A.J. Cook has not been picked up and co-star Paget Brewster is being made an offer to stay for only a reduced number of episodes next season, leaving fan favorite Kristen Vangsness as the only remaining full-time female cast member. I hear negotiations are underway with Brewster for a new deal that would keep her on the show. If she agrees, she will continue to be formally a regular but won't appear in every episode. Talks are also ongoing with Cook to possibly appear in several episodes next season to wrap her character Jennifer Jereau’s storyline.

I love all the characters at CM so I can't say I prefer someone else leaving because I just don't want any of them to go. But cutting off two females and leaving a prominant male cast is a little uneven for my taste. I love all my guys so I don't want to lose any of them but come on we'll have episodes with just Garcia who compared to the others has far less screentime and then all guys?? This is so unfair... Plus Emily is my favorite character along with Hotch and JJ is great. Very unhappy :klingon:
 
Paget (Em) is trying to negotate to stay on the show but in smaller role so she will be there but just not in the bigger, or ever ep role. If all agree's they can also up her role if they need or want to.

As to AJ (JJ) at least they aren't replacing her with someone else. Course if she doesn't get something quick they could always bring her back, They could marry her off to Will and they decide to spend more time together as a family, etc. then if the actress/show want her back she agree's she just checks back in. We will have to see if they totally write her out or if they leave her character hanging. Granted the actress was fired (again at least not replaced). Kirsten may be get a bigger role in the show being that they are cutting AJ's character out and cutting down Paget. Unless something happens between now and the start of the season taping, which could they could get more financial resources to get people back.

I also noticed that MG and Shemar, Thomas or Joe didn't get a cut either. I am not sure why they are completely doing this, I get financial reasoning, I don't think btw that it has much to do with the spin off this decision doesn't sound like one that is new for the show, especially since Paget is in negotations already not just entering them.

I am not going to get bent out of shape just yet. I want to hear from AJ, and Paget. AJ might have been fired but did the actress want more time to spend with her RL family? there by cutting down her time, which is really limited anyway. Not sure about Paget yet. So I think I will wait there should be more coming out on all this.
 
Seriously,CBS has something against me!!

To be fair,I have not been very fond of JJ lately.IMO after they made her a mom ,she lost her spark.So I am not exactly in tears.What I don't like is what hiphugger17 said:we will have a mainly male cast.

Emily is something else becouse I actually want more screentime for her instead of reducing it.As usual,Destiny you are the voice of reason so I am going to wait and see.But I will be very upset if she is not a regular next season.

Yeah I know she isn't leaving completely but it irks me that she'll have less screentime. If they follow CSI NY's formula she could end up like Lindsay who was MIA every other episode throughout the season. That would mean we would have some episodes were it would be only the guys with a sprinkle of Penelope. Cause even if they give Garcia more screentime, how much can they really give her since she is not a profiler? Unless they have a new arrangement in the show were she travels more with the team or she is consulted more than before IDK.
 
Well thats the thing I am just backing y'all away from the edge lol. breath, calm down, chill out, relax, you get the point. From the sounds of it were not getting the complete story. lets see over the next couple weeks if more doesn't come out about this.

BTW remember if you use any type of valguar language it probably will get tossed. Also use the actors/actresses name and in (_) the characters name. Don't just tell them you hate the idea but also why you like the actress on the show, the character on the show.

Sometimes they will email you back, and sometimes not. But they will hand it off to the right people. This won't guarentee that anything will be done about it, but just writing might make you feel like you are doing something and letting them know.

Last year, they cut Det. Angell from CSI: NY, now, Agent JJ from Criminal Minds!! :wtf:

Now that the CM/CSI:NY pairing is destroyed by the geniuses of CBS, I think one or both of the shows may suffer.
 
Wait, this cut won't happen until Season 7? But the upcoming season is Season 6 right? So JJ and Emily will still be there fully for Season 6? If that's the case then why don't they just end the show altogether after Season 6?

I can't understand why they'd want to get rid of JJ. How can they have the show without her? She's the one that brings the cases to their attention. I don't get it.
 
There was a misprint it is season 6 not season 7 as both the exclusive and the deadline article orginially stated they have since corrected it, I must too. Yep they just finished with season five and will start season 6.

Also Deadline.com updated saying this.
UPDATE TUESDAY 11AM: A source close to CBS stressed that the casting changes on Criminal Minds were a creative, not financial decision, and a way to "refresh a veteran drama series." A new regular female cast member will be brought in sometime next season to fill the void that will be left by Cook's departure.

Well there went the "she won't be replaced" Thought I mentioned. I guess we have to wait and hear from the stars.

I hate this news! :( What an awful thing to do -- I love this entire cast the way it is! WHAT in the world is CBS thinking!

And, I've just read at another CM board that a source close to CBS is saying that AJ's cut has nothing to do with finances, it's to "refreshen" a veteran show... & that a NEW female regular will come in mid-season to fill AJ's void (my apologies I didn't copy the source's link). I dispise that news even more -- IMO, this cast & series was perfect the way it was -- if there's need for a fresh face, then by all means add a recurring character. I truly feel for the die-hard CM fans - this must absolutely suck for them.....it does for me, & I'm just a casual viewer.

When I went back to the site that first broke this news, I noticed that they corrected their error of saying these changes were going to happen in season 7. It now says "season 6". Also, it's now being reported that the changes are for "creative reasons", and that a new actress/character will be added to replace the void caused by JJ's absence, at some point next season. My question is why drop AJ Cooke if you're just going to replace her with someone else to do her job? Was AJ really that expensive?

Well, I have to admit that I'm not as bummed about these changes as a lot of people because I mostly watch TV to see the cute and/or handsome men. Unless the show has a female lead to begin with, like "Medium". Or is someone like Miss Parker from "The Pretender." Those characters completely drive the show to the point where the show absolutely couldn't work without them.

I like JJ, but the character is limited since she isn't a profiler. I have admired how professional she was in past episodes when I saw how expertly this young woman who looked like she was about 17 (it was one of the earlier eps) could handle the press, but I don't think there's enough things for her to do at this point in the show. That's why I'm puzzled that they'll going to replace her.

Now Prentiss' role being reduced was more of a shocker, but I noticed that the writers seemed to have trouble writing her character this past season.

Garcia is vital to the show, so I'm thinking that we'll see more of her out in the field next season.

I'm still trying to process these changes...

EDIT: Sorry to have repeated some info from others' posts. That is how slow I type when I'm being distracted by noise in the background.

Also, re: the "refreshing of a veteran show"= :rolleyes:
