Crime Lab Evoluion - Where Do We Go After the "CSI Effect"?

In terms of police ranks, wages....who is considered the most important, would it be the homicide detective, or the CSI "chief" of lieutenant if that's what you call it. I'm not sure if I've explained myself clearly here....

As far as "ranks", generally sworn are higher than civilian.
As far as "wages", until you get pretty high up the sworn police rank latter, the CSI people are better paid.
As far as "most important", I don't think anyone is more important. Everyone has their own job to do, and the job can't get done unless everyone does their own job.

I know a CSI...a real one and she said that CSI makes it look not just easy, but glamorous. It is rare a case that can be solved in a day. Notice in some of the cases, the characters wear the same clothes.

True, but it's a TV show. It has to look glamorous or people wouldn't want to watch it. And if cases had to wait months until after the field work was done before the in house lab work was done, people would loose interest. It would be more like a soap opera, as opposed to a crime drama.

Hardy ever is a Case solved in a day unless the actull Killer or the person who commited the crime admits to doing the offence and has a strong reason to suggest he did so.
Either brining the murder weapon or the clothes there were wearing helps.
And of course it makes it look glamorous would you watch something that was just dull offices and small dirty looking labs (although very organised), it is every Lab workers dream and CSI's to have a Lab and Rooms like the ones on CSI but the budget doesn't stretch that far as Microscopes and all the other scientific equipment needed cost thousands, so no money for a revamp sadly.

This might sound as a very silly question, but what exactly is the difference between a sworn officer and a civilian, I mean, in England, CSis or forensic police as they call it, belong to the police, and are police officers themselves. SO basically, a CSI being a lieutenant like featured in Miami is not possible in the States?

Not a silly question at all. In the US MOST CSIs are not sworn officers. They do not go to a police academy. They do not have to "swear to uphold the law". Put simply they are not cops.

They are civilian employees who quite often work for police agencies. Same as other civilians for police agencies like secretaries, janitors, and radio dispatchers. As civilians they have no authority to "arrest" a subject. They are generally prohibited from carrying firearms to work. They have no more authority legally than anyone else.

Okay, in England , it's different, CSIs are usually cops, just a "special branch" but I guess the budget is different as well, both in France and in England, you can't say that Forensics scientists are very favoured....
