Asner Receives Emmy Nomination

Legendary actor <font color=yellow>Ed Asner</font> has been nominated for an Emmy for his guest-starring role in the <I>CSI: New York</I> episode <A class="link" HREF="http://www.csifiles.com/episodes/newyork/season5/yahrzeit.shtml">"Yahrzeit"</a>.<p>As CSI Files previously <A class="link" HREF="http://www.csifiles.com/news/190609_01.shtml">reported</a>, Asner was submitted for consideration in the "Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series" category for the <I>61st Primetime Emmy Awards</I>. The official nominations were announced Thursday, and Asner's name made the list. The other four nominees in the category are <font color=yellow>Ted Danson</font> (<I>Damages</I>), <font color=yellow>Jimmy Smits</font> (<I>Dexter</I>), <font color=yellow>Ernest Borgnine</font> (<I>ER</I>) and <font color=yellow>Michael J Fox</font> (<I>Rescue Me</I>).<p><I>CSI: Crime Scene Investigation</I> received three nominations. <A class="link" HREF="http://www.csifiles.com/episodes/csi/season9/a_space_oddity.shtml">"A Space Oddity"</a> was recognized in the "Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup For A Series, Miniseries, Movie Or A Special" category. The show was nominated in the "Outstanding Sound Editing For A Series" category for the 200th episode, <A class="link" HREF="http://www.csifiles.com/episodes/csi/season9/mascara.shtml">"Mascara"</a>. The season nine premiere, <A class="link" HREF="http://www.csifiles.com/episodes/csi/season9/for_warrick.shtml">"For Warrick"</a>, received a nomination for "Outstanding Cinematography For A One Hour Series".<p>In addition to the nominations for <I>CSI</I> and <I>CSI: NY</I>, the CBS network is up for Emmy awards in other categories. <I>How I Met Your Mother</I> is on the ballot for "Outstanding Comedy Series". <font color=yellow>Jim Parsons</font> (<I>Big Bang Theory</I>) and <font color=yellow>Charlie Sheen</font> (<I>Two and a Half Men</I>) are up for "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series", and <font color=yellow>Simon Baker</font> is nominated in the "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series" category for his role on the freshman drama <I>The Mentalist</I>. Haha, my thoughts exactly. :p Looking at the list, though, my first thought was that Michael J Fox will take the win.
 
"Best guest actor" is one category he has not yet won. This is his 17th nomination and he has won 7 times. Serious achievements. A bunch of Golden Globes, too.
He is the only actor to have ever won Emmys for playing the same role in two series, one as Lou Grant in the comedy, Mary Tyler Moore Show, and the other in the drama, Lou Grant.
