I think Nick, Sara and Greg can come out with their character in tact. As far as we know right now, and correct me if I'm wrong, only Catherine knows what Brass did. So I think that everyone else's conscience is clear...

They had the results when Sosa was talking to Ray because I believe he said that was the only thing that saved Ray. I'm sure they ran all the tests first before trying to get any warrants for DNA...
