~ Ducky is leaving the competition as she is busy with real life
~ Bev is using her free pass for this round

Please read this post carefully before voting.

[1] Vote for the top 3 of least quality. You need to include a valid reason for each vote, otherwise it won't be counted.
[2] Any member of this board may vote.
[3] The photographers with the top two number of votes will be eliminated.

Here are some examples of good reasons:

31: The photo is overexposed
44: The subject is slightly blurry
59: Not enough contrast (between colours and/or shapes)
63: Ineffective composition
75: The photo has too many elements/no main point of interest
57: Lack of texture

Examples of bad reasons:

44: I hate the colours in the photo (personal preference)
63: The photo is boring

Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 5 - Shadow

This was a hard challenge, so I give my kudos to those who entered. Great work!

Here's my votes:

6 - The crack in the ground runs right through the middle of the image. It distracts from the image. Maybe waiting later in the day and taken the picture when the shadows were on the grass to the right.

2 - Pretty picture but the solar flare on the top right distracts from the image.

7 - The ripples distort the shadow and there isn't enough distinction between the two.

Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 5 - Shadow

05 - Focus of the photo is not the shadows which are quite hard to distinguish.

02 - Beautiful photo but does not best reflect the theme as the shadows are not very clear.

07 - Great photo but a little blurred.

Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 5 - Shadow

2 - The shadow is hard to see, and the solar flare in the corner is distracting.

4 - There isn't enough contrast between the wall and the shadow

5 - First, I applaud whoever took this picture. I'm afraid of heights  This picute is very busy, and I'm not immediately drawn to the shadow. I see the cars and buildings.

This was a hard topic. Kudos to everyone :)

Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 5 - Shadow

7 - Appears slightly blurred and there is no focus point (if that makes sense?)
2 - The sun is distracting, otherwise a very pretty pic
6 - Good idea but the pic seems too light, not enough contrast

Sorry, that was really tough to choose! Great pics everyone :)

Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 5 - Shadow

This is really hard! I can see clear shadows in all these photos and they are all good pics. Any criticism seems harsh, but here goes:

7 - A little blurry.

6 - The crack is slightly distracting, though nice idea.

5 - Shadows not distinctive enough, but great pic.

Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 5 - Shadow

Yes, damn DUcky has been really busy  I am happy that I made this far :D

05. The shadows don't come up in the pic, if you know what I mean.

02. The sun caughts my eye and there's plenty of "light" instead of shadow

04. The beautiful flower grabs my attention and lack of contrast between shadow and wall

6 - the pic seems too light, not enough contrast;

7 - little blurry;

4 - there isn't enough contrast between the wall and the shadow;

Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 5 - Shadow

Very hard to pick. All are beautiful.

05 - The buildings are distracting. I didn't even notice the shadows at first.

02 - Same goes for this one: I didn't notice the shadows.

06 - This picture is too light, and the main focus is on the crack.

Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 5 - Shadow

Great photos all. :D This really was a hard round so I apologise for my votes but the challenge doesn't work without the voting, so...

01 - The photo is too abstract. When I first opened the photo, the light patches grabbed my eyes. I found it hard to focus on the shadows and I still cannot tell what the image is a shadow of (some kind of fence maybe?).

02 - It's a lovely landscape photo but the shadows are not the main focus. Also, the solar flare is distracting.

05 - Another fantastic photo but again, the shadows are not the main focal point of the shot.

Sorry guys! :(

Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 5 - Shadow

Ok, I've noticed this before, but now I need to say something. I think some of you are kind of missing the point a bit during voting - the idea of this LPS is to try and help people improve their photography skills. Therefore, when choosing which photos to vote for, please base your decisions on the quality of the photo, rather than the interpretation of the theme. For example, for this theme, some of you have said that the shadows don't feature prominently enough in the photo. Instead, you could comment on the contrast, exposure, use of lighting, texture, sharpness, depth of field, etc.

I hope I've made this clear, and I will be adding this into the voting rules for the next challenge.

OK, carry on voting...

Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 5 - Shadow

7: Is slightly blurry
6: Seems to lack depth, a little too light
1: A bit too abstract

Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 5 - Shadow

06 - the photo is too light
07 - the photo is a little blurry
02 - the shadows in the photo are hard to pick out at first

Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 5 - Shadow

06 - The shadows are beautiful, but the crack kind of ruined it for me. It split the shadows and made the subject seem incomplete.

04 - There isn't enough contrast between the rose and the shadow. In my opinion, the shadow has become the background and the rose the foreground.

02 - It was a pretty photo, but I don't think including the sun in it was a good idea. The light was quite distracting and made people forget about the real subject - the shadow.

Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 5 - Shadow

07 - lacks sharpness, has a slight blurry effect.
06 - slightly over-exposed, or a least it seems too light. The crack is also distracting.
04 - lovely rose, but this is very much the focus of the photo, with only a faint shadow on the wall. A white wall may have been a better choice for contrast.

wibble, great idea for a thread. I have been away, but I always liked your photo comps. :)
