I am going to start this thread, I don't mean to sound rude, sexist, or ugly, but I take it that the CSI-Miami Board here consist of 98% women. There are only three men (including myself) that are posting on this CSI-Miami board that I know of, including myself.

If the moderator would chime in, plus others and comment, I would appreciate it very much. I feel like a lonely man of 47 years old on here, out of place, and out of touch with the majority of women on here.

I'm not here to discuss romances, "R" rated comments, etc. That seems to be what is discussed on this CSI-Miami Board. I hate to say this, but I may need to excuse myself of Talk-CSI if that is all this board is about. I have expressed my views, and I'll say this, there is more to life than watching actors on TV and talking about thier private parts, romances, match making, etc.

In closing, CSI-Miami is suppose to be a crime drama program, not a daytime soap program, so if I'm out of place here, you tell me and I won't get offended. I rather be open and honest than to argue with anybody.:(

    Thank You

If this is a post asking us to procreate more male spawn then I'm not sure what to say.

TnLance, I'm not going to apologize for myself or anyone on this forum. As humans, we have the right to express our opinions about the shows we love. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Asking us to change our views about the show (whether it concerns romance, any other "soap opera" like subject, or how we feel about a particular character/actor) is a request any member on here simply cannot do. It's like asking us to change ourselves, and in that sense this request becomes very degrading.

If you have a problem with certain profane words or expressions being used, that's perfectly fine. You can always let a moderator of a thread know this by clicking on the "Notify the Moderator" button just beneath a members' picture. The moderators here are ALWAYS more than welcome to help a member.

I hope this answers any questions you may be having...

The post I assume you're referring to may not have been expressed in the most delicate way (and it doesn't necessarily have to be), but in my judgement it was not R-rated material (excessive profane language, pornographic imagery or text etc.). If you find problematic posts, definitely report them and we'll review it. It doesn't guarantee action will be taken, but it does guarantee a look by the moderators. In this case, I've reviewed it and made a determination, which I've addressed in the Horatio thread and now here. If you're not satisfied with the result, you're welcome to PM us and we'd be more than willing to clarify any confusion as soon as we're able, or you can contact T'Bonz regarding moderator actions.

As for the discussion of romances, they're a very popular topic here as there are so many strong opinions, and that in itself is little reason to discourage its discussion here specifically if it's canon/established by the writers, just like any other element you might encounter on the show. Otherwise it's usually referred to the Shipper Central forum.

If you're not here to discuss romances--a sentiment shared among others--, you have no obligation to participate in that particular discussion. There are plenty of other topics that may be of interest around these parts. Over the years, I've encountered quite a few topics I had no interest in, so I didn't participate; intead I moved on to something else that drew my attention. If it's not breaking the rules, and people seem to be happy discussing it, why stifle it? If it's taking over a nonrelated thread, we're usually around to redirect.

That's pretty accurate, but it doesn't mean all of us are gushing about the actors all the time. ;) Sure, it's here and everywhere else on the board, but I don't think it reflects the entirety of posts nor posters here. It takes all kinds to make up a community and everyone's entitled to contribute, even if the hormones fly loose every now and again. There's room for serious discussion, and there's definitely room for having a little fun as well regardless of gender.

If you can think of a CSI:Miami-related topic that isn't currently being covered elsewhere (eg: a character's evolution, an event that happened in an episode, certain storylines etc.), feel free to start a thread about it to get the ball rolling.

I would imagine your perception of the board is colored in part by what you've encountered thus far as a relatively new member. That's fine, and not every board's going to be for everyone. But I would suggest maybe to give it some time and become more familiar with the atmosphere before we're written off completely. We're of course not going to hold you here with a gun to your head, but like I said, it's a new environment to get used to. It's the Internet, so you're going to run into all sorts of things you may not agree with nor care for, which is the nature of the beast. A healthy dose of thick skin and filters (or as I like to call, my internal Ignore Function :p) goes a long way to keeping one's sanity out there.

Protip: If you preface something by saying "I don't mean to be sexist/racist/classist/etc..." the statement that follows probably is sexist/racist/classist/etc.

And what can you do? It's about time females were the majority somewhere- after all, we make up less than 20% of Congress, even though we're more than half of the population.

Now you know how women in elected offices, the military, and many science and engineering jobs feel. And have felt for years. Congrats. Have a Super Feminist Ally Cupcake and pat yourself on the back if it makes you feel better.

Oh, lovely, because we're all women, romance is all we talk about. Never heard that one before. If you bothered to actually explore the board some more, you'd see that there are many other topics covered. I have a simple solution for you: stay out of Shipper Central, where most of the romance discussion takes place. Sure, it's occasionally discussed in other areas of the forum, but that's not the primary focus of threads not found in the Shipper Central section. There's also a really handy tool called a scroll button: see a post that deals with something you don't care about, simply scroll on by! Bonus tip: if you notice that a specific user or users tend to only talk about subjects you find bothersome/annoying/etc., then you can put them on your "ignore" list.

Why thank you, Oh Smart Male One, for explaining to us poor, small-brained females what kind of show CSI:Miami is! I never would've figured it out without your help! And thank you, of course, for telling me what I should and should not get out of the show. I really appreciate it!

I do- NO. You can pry my birth control pills from my cold, dead hands. I REFUSE TO MENSTRUATE MORE THAN 4 TIMES A YEAR

Ooh, that's right, I just mentioned a "female thing", and I shouldn't have because it makes the poor men uncomfortable. Deal with it. I have a uterus, yes. It doesn't define me, but I am not ashamed of it.

Ok reading this truly made me feel teen more than usually..
I agree with GG and Finch.
I still remember the feeling of being new member in unknown area, (no matter what gender) being new to someplace just takes some time (for me it was about a year or so) to make your way around.
And wow only three men on this board? Wow! Didn't know that.
I guess I still need to make my way around here.
TnLance if you don't like or you just don't feel reading certain type of posts just don't read. If you're not interested in topic just let it go. We're so many people here and we're different and coming from different places, we have different likes and dislikes. But it's not the reason to feel left out (I felt left out at the beginning but not anymore).

Maybe I'm getting this totally differently, but I just wanted to say something (yeah like I could shut myself)...
Don't mind my banter. Too many years spent without internet and friends that cares about me..

P.S. silentdisco you got the point. Nearly missed your post.
Yup, that really what we're talking about (wow even most romance disliker like myself).

TNLance, you did exactly the same thing on the CBS CSI Miami forum when things were not going how you would like and you made "threats" against the members who did not agree with your posts (i.e. constantly talking about Elvis and radio stations. Both of which have NOTHING to do with CSI Miami).

Talk CSI is by one of the best boards around with moderators that actually step up to the plate and do a fantastic job, a job that I and many others could not do so well! If you don't like a topic in a certain thread, think of a new one to create new discussions about CSI MIAMI! It's really not that hard!

And to Gooniegirl3333, Finch, Silent Disco... BRAVO!

Just going to add here as well, that it's best that any issues from other boards not be brought here. We want to avoid board-wars and any mud slinging that would result. Thanks!

It was similar with me when I first joined (granted, the atmosphere was way different back in '05). It took well over 6 months to feel 'at home' here, even when generally, people were--and still are--as helpful as possible. It's ultimately up to the new member to integrate themselves in whatever capacity makes them comfortable.

Also, being mostly female in the forum doesn't change the fact that the show itself is showcasing soap-opera type storylines (false pregnancies, romances, amnesia, damsels-in-distress, terminal illnesses, comical bad guys etc.). ;) I'd love if CSI:Miami tackled more relevant issues, more forensics, puzzles, and solving cases without the excessive personal drama, but we discuss what we've been given lately.

I would hazzard a guess and say most of us regardless of gender took an interest in the show because of its base subject-matter--forensic investigation. And we do discuss it along with everything else on the show. A few years ago, you couldn't turn your head without seeing a discussion about Horatio's vigilantism, the unbalanced character focus, or additions to the team. Right now the focus is on romances (despite always being popular no matter what show it is) as they are so heavily featured right now and people have strong opinions about it from both directions.

It's supply and demand: If there's interest, chances are that topic is more likely to be discussed more often. We talk about what we want to talk about, whether it may be romances, evidence, characters, police politics, or any other element of the show. It doesn't have to be balanced, nor subjugated into a 'female-geared topic' versus a 'male-geared topic'. My gender has very little to do with what I choose to contribute to the forum, in any event.

And just to expand upon the perceived profane language or discussion of mature subject-matter: As the site is PG-13 and not G-rated, it's allowable to discuss mild sexual content, violence, drug use, and cursing here is fine in moderation. If any such elements conflict with one's personal values, it's up to (general) you to either scroll past or find a place that makes you more comfortable within your values, as others have mentioned above. As always, if it seems excessive, a notify is absolutely a good idea so we can take a look.

Tn, I actually know of a lot more male members here than you know of. Some stick to the NY area, some stick to the LV area. And a couple stick to Miami. And some don't post in the CSI areas, but stick to the gen tv/media area. So, there are actually more here than you think. My best guess would be that it's around at least ten.

However, I think the CSIs have a larger number of female viewers than they do male viewers, therefore it would stand to reason that the majority of message board participants are female.

I'm not sure about that. Why would the writers create so testosterone-driven plots then? Heavily male cast, chases, bombs, shootings - that's a male thing, I think. The romance storylines etc, bout which TN mentions, are definitely in minority in comparison. Especially last season. Not much about personal lives of the characters, too. Therefore I think that CSI Miami is actually more for male viewers than any other CSI, but mostly women post on forums. My husband watches CSI Miami, but he wouldn't post here, it doesn't interest him that much.

I'm sure I've also read that there were more female viewers.I started watching (all the CSI's)because of the crime, forensics and science and I'm sure others did as well.Being female,I'm still more interested in the chases, bombs etc.rather than romantic storylines, but would rather the show return to it's roots with more forenics and science.

I'm male, and I'm not sure how to respond to this.

All 3 of the "CSI" series have a larger proportion of female viewers. They also have a lot of ships. These two things are unrelated, because I love being a shipper too :p

I do agree, TnLance that sometimes discussions do get a bit awkward for males, but IMO the only comments I find awkward are the comments about nude pictures of male actors, etc., but its not difficult to just ignore such comments. All 3 of the CSI boards are a great to place to get to know people and discuss everybody's favorite crime dramas.

If you love CSI, you're not out of place here, but the romances & relationships are an integral part of the show, and just as much a part of it as the crime solving and the action.

    Just my two cents.

Okay :( **scuttles off back to the Vegas boards**

But, TnLance, lets be honest, If the boards were mostly male users we'd do it with female cast members instead, so, we can't blame them for taking advantage of being the majority :shifty::lol::shifty:
