Ratings: CSI vs ... Part 2

Thanks, Destiny and Waiting - hopefully it doesn't come to 7 games, but hell, by last night's ratings it won't look like it'll matter too much.

Yup. Very highly publicized as well. I saw WAY too many Grey's commercials last week! LOL! But, you can't really blame them trying to up their ratings while their main competition has a rerun!

So, we didn't do too bad, considering that we had a rerun and they had a new ep... Right?

I think we did alright.

Baseball was on at the same time as well. Marc Berman put the repeat of CSI under the "Winners" category for the night in his blog (repeats never get included normally), and a lot of the regular posters seemed pretty shocked at how big CSI's numbers were.

FWIW, Grey's aired a repeat on Friday and they got: fourth in total viewers (4.31 million) and third among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m., with a 1.3/ 5 in the demo.

It was up against The Next Great American Band and Deal or No Deal = 13.5 million viewers.

CSI was up against Grey's, The Office, Scrubs and baseball = 49 million viewers.

CSI's repeat also beat a new episode of Without a Trace.

pretty impressive that a re-run did so well! I'd be a bit concerned if I where bothered (which I'm not ;) ) about some of those other shows, to get run so close by an episode that has already been on once!

All in all, it says a lot for CSI, that in it's 8th season it's coming on so strongly against a whole load of newer shows. I'm a bit surprised Miami still does better than NY. So far this season - well first 3 eps (not seen the last 1 or 2 yet), has been really weak, whereas apart from the last episode, NY has been really strong.

Anyway, back onto CSI - Kudos to the actors/writers/producers of the show, to be going so strong after 8 seasons is impressive.

For Informational purpose only The World Series is officially over Boston won. (Further discussion of Baseball can be done in the MISC forum thread).

BIG thank-you to Travis Yanan for this - he even posted half-hour breakdowns!

I understand the ratings drop, I thought this episode was about as weak as any episode in the past 4 Seasons.

GA: 18.762 million viewers (this WILL rise quite a bit, so they will win for sure)
CSI: 18.749 million viewers
wait, you're saying that GA had a repeat this week so you're comparing CSI to their last weeks' ratings. sooo, shouldn't CSI ratings be corrected since GA's are known for about 6 days already and CSI was only yesterday? in other words, shouldn't CSI's ratings raise from what you've shown, not GA's, and in the end it's going to be CSI who wins the battle?

No - GA has not yet had a repeat. CSI had a repeat last week. Because of that, GA's episode 5 aired last week, and CSI's episode 5 aired this week. Obviously I have to compare episode-to-episode rather than airdate-to-airdate. And if you compare CSI's Episode 5 to GA's episode 5, they actually won, even though CSI lost to GA last night.

Irony time: as is always the nature with two-hour specials, the second hour did better than the first. Meaning that WAT beat CSI this week. lol.

Again, keep in mind (like with last week's major screw-up) that these are just the metered markets, but so long as things haven't been switched like last time, they should still be fairly accurate:

Top overnight honors at 9 p.m. fell in CBS’ corner, with CSI (a cross-over episode with lead-out Without a Trace) at a solid 14.1/21. But a 12.0/18 for Grey’s Anatomy on ABC should still be enough for the medical drama to easily win the 9 p.m. hour among adults 18-49.

Crossing over with CSI lifted CBS’ Without a Trace to a season-high (and easily dominant) 14.8/24 in the overnights at 10 p.m.

If these numbers are accurate, they should put CSI at around 21-22 million viewers. Not a smash-hit, but still good. WAT probably got around 22-23.

GA is likely in the 18-19 range.

Well, it may have gotten higher household numbers, but CSI still beat WAT in viewers as well as the 18-49s.

Thursday 9 p.m.
CSI (CBS)
Viewers: 21.92 million (#1), A18-49: 6.4/15 (#2)

Grey’s Anatomy (ABC)
Viewers: 19.30 million (#2), A18-49: 7.9/19 (#1)

Crossing over with CSI lifted CBS’ Without a Trace to a season-high (and easily dominant) 21.39 million viewers and a 6.3/17 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m.
