Ratings Discussion

FX had a new very-hyped show premiere last night at the same hour, which may have taken some of the demo away from CSI, as well as Revenge (which dropped by .3 in the demo and close to a million viewers).

I tried to watch that FX show during the second showing of it. I watched about 30 to 45 mins of it and couldn't stand it anymore. I just turned it to an old episode of Friends LOL.
LOL. Well, they made you look.
I'll check it out at some point, but I'm not in a very big hurry. It looks a little out there, and then some.

These are the final raings for Bittersweet, and others in the hour:

CSI 2.9 (18-49 demo)/ 11.98 million viewers
Revenge 2.4/ 7.68 million
Law & Order: SVU 2.1/ 7.98 million

A bump in the viewers from last week, and CSI still is winning the hour in both demo and viewers, so that has to be a good sign. Marc Berman, who analyzes ratings for a living, calls CSI "one of the unsung heroes" this season; so I'll take his word as positive for the new time period expectations.

I think Marc is right :)

Bad news from TVLine.com

Revenge is looking sweeter and sweeter, as the freshman ABC drama this Wednesday topped the 10 o’clock demos for the first time since its debut.
Scoring a 2.7 rating with the coveted 18-49 crowd — and as CSI dipped 10 percent to a 2.6, the CBS procedural’s all-time low for a fall episodeRevenge was up 13 percent week-to-week.

Well, that's pretty disappointing. But I have to admit, I like Revenge. And TR Knight guested on SVU, and then there was baseball on FOX; so the competition was a little stiffer in my household last night.
Here are the finals for Maid Man:

Revenge 2.7 (18-49 demo)/ 7.900 million viewers
CSI 2.6/ 10.930
Law & Order: SVU 2.1/ 7.340

Maybe some viewers tuned out last night due to the mob related storyline. A lot of viewers don't like that sort of thing. I don't usually, but last night's didn't bother me.

Ratings for CSI Down.
CSI Top Entertainment Program at 10 (second behind the World Series).

CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION was second behind FOX's baseball in households (6.8/11), viewers (10.64m), adults 25-54 (3.5/08) and adults 18-49 (2.6/07). Compared to last week, CSI was up +3% in adults 25-54 (from 3.4/08) and even in adults 18-49.

Thanks for the info Blackflag!

No Sookie, they were actually up. I can see where that title is a bit confusing when discussing ratings though!

Glad to see the numbers up! When the World Series is over and the next repeat is out of the way, hopefully they will rise further :)

Just an FYI posting. :)
I found a chart of the cost of a 30 second ad for current tv shows. I've listed CBS's shows in descending order:

1) Two and a Half Men $252,418
2) The Big Bang Theory 198,348
3) Mike and Molly 196,497
4) Person of Interest 174,574
5) How I Met Your Mother 168,829
6) Two Broke Girls 166,678
7) NCIS 154,646
8) The Mentalist 154,781
9) Survivor 144,478
10) The Good WIfe 137,457
11) Criminal Minds 137,347
12) CSI 135,350
13) NCIS:LA 133,204
14) Unforgettable 131,815
15) Hawaii 5-0 130,514
16) The Amazing Race 124,091
17) 60 Minutes 122,075
18) CSI:Miami 98,027
19) Blue Bloods 76,133
20) CSI:NY 71,909
21) A Gifted Man 63,827

I can't remember exactly, but I think CSI's ad revenue last season was a little higher than what POI is currently getting, but less than Grey's Anatomy. CSI is in decent shape on Wednesday and is in line with Criminal Minds, but I'm pretty shocked at Miami and NY's ad revenue.
For those discounting budget cuts as a valid reason for cutting screen time for actors, think again. Veteran casts and crews are expensive to maintain, and dramas in general are much more expensive to produce than sitcoms, especially if they have any fancy camera work or special effects. I would venture a guess and say that the CSI's are the costliest shows for CBS right now, yet they are in the lower end of ad revenue for the network. Which means they have to make money in other ways. Syndication and international popularity are helping a lot to keep the shows going, I suspect.

The full chart can be found here, and includes the other networks. It's pretty interesting stuff.
