Zuiker Would Like A 'CSI' Movie

CSI Files

Captain
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation creator Anthony E. Zuiker said recently he'd be open to the idea of taking CSI to the big screen.

"I hope that comes true because I have some ideas about that," Zuiker was quoted in the TV supplement of the Australian Sun Herald. "I can't really verbalize them, but I think there's a way to make it work."

Zuiker was only able to wax briefly about his CSI movie dreams, as most of the interview consisted of reporter Scott Ellis grilling him about the rumored displeasure of William Petersen (Gil Grissom) with the show. "Billy is the glue in a nucleus to the whole franchise," said Zuiker, who apparently seemed uncomfortable even to consider the possibility of Petersen leaving. But when pressed, Zuiker said that "the show will go on, [and] whether we lose actors or not, the concept will move forward."

"We have been fortunate enough not to really lose too many people in five years," Zuiker continued, "so we're grateful, but [the franchise] has become bigger than all of us. The show will go on without William Petersen, but probably will not be as good."

For now, fans needn't worry, as Petersen will still return as normal for CSI's sixth season. But if the star does depart at some point in the future, the producers may already have a back-up plan in mind. Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows) seemed to confirm that her character was placed in charge of the swing shift in part to prepare her for eventually taking over the lead role. "I think perhaps somewhere in the back of their minds, but I don't know, you'll have to ask them," the actress said, before adding she'd love to be in charge. "It would be, I guess, groundbreaking to a certain degree and I would love to be the one to break that ground."

More from Zuiker and Helgenberger, as well as an analysis of this year's CSI format changes, can be found in the Television Magazine of the Sun Herald in Sydney, and The Age in Melbourne. Thanks go out to Stephen for this!

 I so DISAGREE with that! It would not go on without him at all!

If Catherine ends up in charge, that will be when I stop watching the show. I can't even stand her being in charge of the swing shift with all the non-ethical stunts she's pulled.

If they do this whole Movie idea then I think it would be best if they had a cross over of all three instead of focusing on the Original.

Don't know why. I think it would be really cool to have the three crime labs working together probably on the biggest case of the century.

Wow, im so happy there considering making a movie, ive always hoped they would. I hope it would concentrate mainly on the origial csi but it would be good to involve the cast from NY and Miami, cos i did like the episode "Cross-jurisdiction"
Its going to be different if Billy does decide to leave cos weve got used to the way he works but eventually knew one of the main cast does leave. Although im happy to know that nothing happens to catherine cos shes my favourite character.

Did they ever do that before? Make a movie from a primetime tv drama? Yes, I know they did it tons of times with cartoons, but did they ever really pull off a movie of a TV show?

Star Trek actually would be an obvious example. The X Files is another example.

I think CSI would make a good MOVIE as they could get into more detail of the cases and characters (hopefully) without worrying about the characters. Oh, and no breakup of the commercial is ALWAYS good news :)

It would be so cool for a CSI movie to come. I've always hoped for that. I also would like it most if they would focus on al three shows. A case you'll never forget.

Here are some things:

One, if TPTB allowed CSI to be turned into a movie, everyone would have to be on board for it, because if one character isn't ready to be in a movie about the show, it doesn't go on, or they recast that person for the movie (which wouldn't be cool, because the person who originally plays that character would revolt).

Two, if Billy leaves the show, they should just end the show, because I don't think Marg can carry the title herself, and then, there would be a fight between Gary, George, Jorja, Eric, Robert and Paul would be the 2nd banana to her. (Right now, Billy is the #1 star and Marg is somewhat his 2nd banana). Everyone would fight over who would be in what position, and then, Mr. Moonves would stick his two cents in, and no one needs that again...trust me. (But, this is for a different topic at a different time).

Three, I hope they extend Billy's contract to more after the 6th season, because if they don't, the show is over. Maybe Billy wants to leave to do other things, because he's expressed problems with it and he's been having health problems with his heart (and I've read in an article somewhere that he'd like to start a family with his wife, Gina some time). So, if he wants to go, he'd better have an amazing reason, because WE ALL WANT HIM TO STAY!!! (But, as I said before, another topic...another place...another time).

That's all I have to say.
EnjoY!! :D

Billy leaving CSI would be catastrophic. the show would go on, yes, but it would not be the same. Billy Petersen is the main reason I watch CSI. I love what he's done with his character, and I think that he's a really talented and versatile actor. If TPTB lost him, they would lose many fans along with him.

As for Catherine taking charge - gee, what an excellent idea, seeing how well people have reacted to her becoming the Lab Nazi (aka supervisor of the swing shift). Catherine is not and never will be as good as Grissom. She probably is a good supervisor, yes, but something about her being in charge just freaks me out. It's not a good thing.
