Zuiker Teases 'CSI' Season Four

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation fans won't have to wait too much longer to find out the result of Gil Grissom's ear operation from "Inside The Box".

Grissom's season-long character arc, which saw the CSI having to deal with the prospect of going deaf, will be wrapped up in the season four premiere, executive producer Anthony Zuiker reportedly told Dave Mason at the Ventura County Star.

But, as the title of the episode indicates, viewers should "Assume Nothing". Executive producer Carol Mendelsohn wouldn't be drawn on whether Grissom will actually have his hearing restored.

While the writers have always acknowledged CSI is a procedural crime series, that hasn't stopped them from laying down several character arcs over the years. In addition to Grissom's hearing loss, there has always been some sexual tension between the lead CSI and Sara Sidle. "We like to play subtexts between Grissom and Sara," Anthony Zuiker said. "That was certainly an interesting dynamic last year when the entire lab blew up and she hurt her wrist and he called her 'honey,' and he's made some interesting comments."

Marg Helgenberger is also looking forward to what next season will hold for Catherine Willows. "You know, I don't know what [the producers] have planned," the actress said. "I think the characters are mysteries. We don't know too much about them. I like to see some shades of her character, not necessarily heroic, some flaws."
