Spike drew its best full-day ratings in its history on September 6th when it ran a marathon of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episodes over an 18 hour period.

According to Variety (via Yahoo!News), the CSI marathon topped the previous all-day record for the net, held by a 2001 Labor Day Star Trek: The Next Generation marathon, by 44\%. The marathon drew an average of 2.29 million viewers throughout the day, winning both the adult 18-49 and 18-34 categories among all advertiser-supported cable networks.

The first CSI episode of the marathon began at 9am Eastern time and drew 409,000 households. By noon 1.3 million were tuning in, and that number rose to 1.9 million at 4pm. The 8pm airing drew the best numbers, with 2.4 million households watching. This bodes well for Spike, as CSI will air at 7pm and 8pm once it moves to its regular schedule on September 13th. The marathon concluded at 3am.

CSI also managed to win key demographics for Spike. It came in first with the adult 18-49 category at both the 7pm and 8pm airings. Data also shows that large numbers of women are tuning in to watch CSI on Spike, which bills itself as the "network for men." CSI marathons will continue through Friday.
