Veasey: We Want To Shock Them

CSI Files

Captain
CSI: New York's leading man will be crossing state lines.
The finale of season four left New York fans wondering how Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) was going to get out of the pickle he was in after being kidnapped by a bank robber. The premiere of season five airs September 24, and viewers will see Mac emerging from the Hudson River in New Jersey. "We didn't want to tease the audience into thinking we were going to kill Mac Taylor," executive producer Pam Veasey told TV Guide. "We want to shock them with, 'Wait a minute--how did he get there?'"
"Mac is bleeding from the head and he has to orient himself to find out exactly where he is," Sinise explained. A distant view of the Statue of Liberty gives him a clue. This is one of several scenes shot on location for the season premiere--typically, CSI: NY is filmed in Los Angeles.
The scene by the river required Sinise to be kept wet, so crew members sprayed him with water between takes. The actor didn't mind since they were filming on a day with record-breaking summer temperatures. "This is good," he said. "It's usually really cold when I have to do scenes like this."
Meanwhile, Sinise's costar Melina Kanakaredes (Stella Bonasera) got a birds' eye view of the city. "Stella's in a helicopter searching for the car when she gets Mac's call," Kanakaredes said. "Every time we come to New York, we try to do something different. For me, to see the city from a helicopter is fantastic!"
The original article is from the August 25-31 issue of TV Guide.
