Fans have to wait a few more weeks.
CBS announced the return dates for 14 series that will be producing new episodes for the end of the current season. The CSI franchise is among the shows that will be coming back starting at the end of next month. CSI: Miami returns first on March 24 and is planning to add eight episodes to the 13 that were produced before the writers' strike began. CSI: New York and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation will be back in April. New York will air the first of seven planned episodes on April 2, and CSI will start the next night. CSI: NY and Miami will both end up with 21 episodes for the current season, but CSI will come up short with only 17. The drama produced 11 episodes before the strike and is going to add six more during the next few months.
Two other CBS shows that will be returning in April are Criminal Minds and Without a Trace. Minds leads in to New York and will premiere the same night and produce the same number of episodes to add to the current season (making a total of 20 episodes for the drama in its third season). Trace will return alongside CSI on April 3 and, like the forensic drama, produce six additional episodes for a total of 18 in its sixth season.
Looking beyond the current season, CBS has already renewed 11 series for this fall. The CSI franchise is on the list, and Criminal Minds and Without a Trace made the cut as well. Cold Case, NCIS and Ghost Whisperer are among the other series given the go-ahead for another season. Some shows, such as Shark (which aired after CSI last season) and the freshman series Moonlight, still have undecided futures at this point.
