Captain
Hello World!

Hello, folks.

I hope everyone's keeping safe down in Louisiana. As I was telling Christian earlier, I'm counting the days until hurricane season is over (November 30th, for those of you keeping track). Seems like this year will be a lot tamer than last year, but those little suckers love to sneak up on you when you least expect it. Jeez, wasn't Katrina like a penguin-shaped cloud just a couple of days ago? Look at her now. They grow up so fast.

We're not really feeling the effects of Katrina in the Caribbean, but she has managed to suck all the air in, so it's really hot down here. On top of that, we have all this sand from the Sahara in the atmosphere, so things are looking freaky outside. Pretty, though.

Anyway, I hope everyone in the south keeps safe. Beware of any buckets of bullets left laying around unattended.

Here's what was happening back in late August/early September of 2003:

[*]Jimmy Smits Was Offered 'Miami' Lead
Before the producers of Miami gave David Caruso the role of Horatio Caine, they had another NYPD Blue star in mind for the job. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jimmy Smits was offered the part but turned it down. Smits now stars on NBC's The West Wing.

[*]'CSI' Complete Second Season Arrives on DVD
The second season of CSI hit the stores early September of 2003. The set includes all 23 episodes of the season plus the CSI/Miami crossover. Ohio's newspaper Beacon Journal deemed it a better set than that of season 1.

[*]Fall 2004 Debut Likely For Third 'CSI'
Talks of a second CSI spin-off began two years ago when producers Carol Mendelsohn and Ann Donahue signed eight-figure contracts with CBS and Alliance Atlantis to stay with the franchise until the end of the 2006-2007 television season. The deal made the duo the highest-paid female television showrunners.
For more interesting stories from that week, check out our news archives.

[*]Tonight at 10:00pm, CBS will be repeating CSI: Miami's "Cop Killer." Here's how the network describes the episode:

"During a routine traffic stop, a police officer is murdered and now Horatio and the team must track down the killer. The only witness to the murder is a civilian who was doing a ride-along with the officer, but who is now missing. Roadside evidence leads the CSIs to Missy Marshall, a teenage girl who was with the killer at the time of the murder. However, as the team searches for the civilian and the killer, they find that Missy may have been more involved with killer and the shooting than she is admitting. Meanwhile, Horatio and Rebecca's relationship is in jeopardy when they don't see eye to eye on a case."

[*]On Wednesday at 10:00pm, you'll be able to watch a repeat of CSI: New York's "Three Generations Are Enoguh." CBS describes the episode as follows:

"Mac examines the mysterious disappearance of a stock brocker while Stella investigates the murder of a woman thrown off the roof of a church. Panic ensues on a New York trading floor when a briefcase is left behind with no owner. The briefcase’s contents are traced back to a stock broker who mysteriously disappeared after investigating another broker’s illegal trades. Meanwhile, Stella investigates the death of a pregnant counselor found next to the church where she worked."

[*]Finally, on Thursday at 9:00pm, CBS has scheduled a repeat of the original CSI's "Harvest." This is what you can expect from the episode:

"Grissom and his crew investigate the kidnapping of a 12-year old girl taken from a convenience-store parking lot while her older sister is inside. The case hits the CSIs hard and Catherine even harder after Lindsey is picked up by police for hitchhiking. Back in the lab, Greg's latest replacement attracts Warrick's attention but her eccentric personality could be a problem."
In addition to the above episodes on CBS, cable channel SpikeTV will of course continue its daily CSI repeats.
