<font size="3">Hello World!</font>

The summer non-ratings period is finally upon us Down Under, the time of year when everyone flees their TV sets as the Australia networks schedule all the US programs that they bought and were subsequently cancelled. As an indication of how bad things are: we're still suffering through Just Shoot Me.

Summer does offer some rays of television sunshine, however, in the form of "risky" shows that don't have the mass appeal of CSI and Law & Order. The West Wing and Gilmore Girls both flourished over summer, and I hope to see them back on the schedule again this year. We'll also have a chance to take a look at the Emmy-winning Arrested Development, even if the episodes are being burned off at 10:30 p.m.

There's also plenty of CSI repeats to go around, not that there weren't enough reruns during the ratings period. Unfortunately, when a show rates almost as well in repeats, as CSI tends to do in Australia, the networks prefer to string things out a bit. That said, the fourth season was stronger than the third, with quite a few stand-out episodes, including "Jackpot", "Homebodies", "Paper or Plastic?" and "Bloodlines". For my pick of the season, it would have to be a tie between "Invisible Evidence" and "Butterflied", both of which number among the show's best-ever episodes.
