Captain
<font size="3">Hello World!</font>

Yes, I know I'm about two weeks late with the Oscar commentary, but there's always room for one more view, isn't there? ;)

Since the ceremony is screened on Monday evening Australia time, I always have to try and avoid all Internet and television news lest I find out the results. Some years I just don't bother, but this time around I made a determined effort. I needn't have bothered.

Although I love The Lord of the Rings, this had to be one of the most boring Oscar ceremonies in recent years. Even the acting categories, in which LOTR: TROTK wasn't eligible, were totally predictable. The only pleasant surprise was <FONT COLOR=YELLOW>Russell Boyd</font>'s cinematography win for Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.

But poor <font color=yellow>Peter Weir</font>. He only tends to make a film every couple of years, but when he does, it's always worth watching. With Master & Commander he was on his fourth nomination for Best Director and his fifth and sixth nods overall, but unfortunately he got buried by The Lord of the Rings juggernaut. It's a shame that this well-respected and technically adept director, behind films such as Gallipoli, Dead Poets Society, Witness and The Truman Show, still hasn't been recognised by the Academy.
