CSI Files
Captain
<font size="3">Hello World!</font>
It's that time of year where I have to pretend to be paying attention to basketball and hockey playoffs. My sons are actually more interested in Yu-Gi-Oh than either sport, but I'm still expected to have some idea who's still in the game.
Being a football and baseball fan but decidedly not a basketball or hockey fan, I often end up deciding who to root for based on team names. It's a dilemma in hockey: the Devils or the Mighty Ducks? It's hard for me to cheer for anything too closely associated with Disney, so I'll cheer for the arch-fiend's team. Basketball is tougher. With Michael Jordan departing my home team, I can't bring myself to care at all.
This may sound like a random way to follow sports, but it works for me. I rooted for Peace Rules in the Kentucky Derby because it had the best name, though I did root for Funny Cide in the Belmont because the only champion horses I can name are the Triple Crown winners of my lifetime. Until Washington gets its own baseball team, I'll never be better than a professional sports dilettante.
