Sinise Rocks Ohio

CSI Files

Captain
CSI:NY star Gary Sinise (Mac Taylor) shifts easily between the roles of screen star and rock star. He may be on summer break from the top-rated show, but he took the stage at Cleveland’s House of Blues on Saturday night.

Sinise plays bass in the Lt. Dan Band, which he formed to entertain the troops after the invasion of Iraq in 2003. He co-founded the band along with Vietnam veteran Kimo Williams, who worked with Sinise on the actor’s Steppenwolf Theater Company production of A Streetcar Named Desire.

Sinise isn’t trying to lay low when he takes the stage with the Lt. Dan Band. He’s willing to use his name to sell more tickets. “If throwing ‘CSI: New York’s Gary Sinise’ in there will help get a few more people in the seats, we have a much better time when the place is full, and just putting ‘Lt. Dan Band’ might not be enough,” says Sinise.

The band has reason beyond wanting to have a good time to fill as many seats as possible. According to Sinise, “I’d say about 75 percent of the gigs we do are charity-related, for the USO or Wounded Warriors and other veterans’ organizations.”
