Shankar Says It's Not Over

CSI Files

The CSI: Crime Scene Investigation finale may have aired, but the story isn't over yet.

The CSI producers came up with the Miniature Crime Scene Killer storyline a year ago, and it has had a strong effect on the show's lead character. Throughout season seven, Gil Grissom (<font color=yellow>William Petersen</font>) tried to solve the murders and find the elusive serial killer. According to executive producer <font color=yellow>Naren Shankar</font>, the events of the season are "not going to leave him the same as he was when we first saw him this year."

Another storyline during season seven was the secret relationship between Grissom and Sara Sidle (<font color=yellow>Jorja Fox</font>). The season finale forced Grissom to reveal the relationship to the rest of his team when Sara went missing. Shankar said that Sara's situation "will have some significant ramifications for her relationship with Grissom." Fox's contract ran out at the end of the season, but the network has not said if she will be returning in the fall.

The events from the finale of season seven, "Living Doll," will carry over into the next season. "We have no intention of tightly serializing the show," Shankar said, "but we have tried over the past several years to pull character elements through so it's not like we're hitting the reset button at the start of every year. The end won't necessarily be the end."

I'm hoping that they carry of the James family storyline too. And they did try to carry over the impact Grave Danger had on Nick, which is something, I'll give them that. But I must say that I'm still none too thrilled with ending the season with 'To Be Continued...'

 Is that a promise of continuity? Surely not...

But then, 'to be continued', if it wasn't there would be uproar, I'm still wondering quite how they will do the first episode of the new season, if it will be flash backs and the like?

Sara's situation "will have some significant ramifications for her relationship with Grissom."
*le sigh* If he hadn't followed that up with "we have no intention of tightly serializing the show" I would have been worried for the future of the first of the CSI franchise. :)
