Season Two Of 'NY' Has Giovinazzo Limping On The Set

CSI Files

Captain
<font color=yellow>Carmine Giovinazzo</font> (Danny Messer) recently discussed what's ahead for his character on CSI: New York, and revealed that being a real-life athlete didn't prepare him for the new season.

"I opened up this season running on a rooftop in downtown Los Angeles for, like, 12 hours in a pair of boots and jeans, chasing down this guy and tackling him down," Giovinazzo told Cult Times magazine. "The next four days I felt like such an old man with my calves and hamstrings. I am limping into work going, 'Hey guys, do you think you could get me a massage here or something to rub me out?' Didn't hear anything back on that one."

When Giovinazzo isn't chasing down criminals in front of the camera he likes to sit back and figure out his role in the series. The show has only been on the air a year but the actor already has a good grasp on Danny Messer. "He's an easy character in one sense because he's sincere about wanting to change things and make them right," he told the magazine. "He has a strong anger and frustration towards the criminal lifestyle because he came from that world himself and maybe could have gone that way."

"His family was involved with the wise guys and kids who were really delinquents or coming from Staten Island, goons, as I call them," he continued. "He went and studied to go against the grain. He really wants to please <font color=yellow>Gary Sinise</font>'s character, Mac. He's a bit rebellious, which is good because he doesn't always go by the book."

Fans got to learn more about Danny in the episodes "Tanglewood" and "On The Job," but that certainly wasn't the end of it. Giovinazzo promised season two will continue to reveal the secrets surrounding Danny's past, while at the same time flesh out his relationship with Mac Taylor. "We definitely intend on dealing with "Tanglewood" and what is going on with that," he revealed. "What I really dug, that conflict with Mac, has kind of subsided. The first few episodes I didn't really converse with Gary so we were talking about it. Last time, it ended with Mac saying, 'We'll see how we feel about each other,' but it seems like we had our time apart and we're okay."

This season of New York will also see the introduction of a new cast member - <font color=yellow>Anna Belknap</font> as Lindsay Monroe - after actress <font color=yellow>Vanessa Ferlito</font> (Aiden Burn) was asked to be written out. While Giovinazzo lamented Ferlito's departure he's looking forward to establishing a relationship between his and Belknap's character. "[Lindsay Monroe] has done some really good work and comes in to fill a hole. It is going to be a fun dynamic because it is something I can play on, her being an outsider and not from New York. I have an opportunity to have a good banter with her and give her a hard time in a light-hearted way."

These revelations about Danny and his new inter-personal relationships will be explored slowly, Giovinazzo said, as the writers' main priority is to place the show on strong footing. "We're just moving along now, but for Danny, it is 'Just don't screw up!' Hopefully I do screw up, but right now we're just pleasing everybody by making a solid show all around. I was told just to be patient and we'll get into the stuff I think people love, which is that personal emotion."

This is such a great article! Carmine is just a fun loving person and you can tell that he is a cut up. I like the way he is "living" his character and as upset as I am about Vanessa's departure, I think the choice for the new actress was a good one!
