Season Three Hits The Shelves

CSI Files

According to reviews, the DVD set for CSI: New York's third season combines good episodes with interesting special features.

The reviewer from PS3 Center said that the third season of New York "did what it does best with some incredibly graphic and gory scenes packed in with some interesting plots and creative motives." Home Theater Forum even went so far as to say that "during the 2006-2007 season, CSI: NY was the best of the three CSI series."

The list of guest stars for season three included <font color=yellow>John McEnroe</font>, <font color=yellow>Nelly Furtado</font>, <font color=yellow>Sasha Cohen</font> and the Suicide Girls. Real Movie News stated that "[t]he guest stars and the script often fail to meet the level of talent that the actors in the Forensics Team are capable of." However, regarding the main characters, CHUD.com's review of the season said that "no one steals the spotlight and yet when each character gets their moment it's as though they are the star of the series."

The DVD set comes with six discs. There are four episode commentaries and four special features. "These commentaries add quite a bit of insight into the episodes, how they affect the overall story, how they were made, and what type of impact they should have on the viewer and are great to listen to and view," according to PS3 Center. The commentary for "Consequences" features actor <font color=yellow>Eddie Cahill</font> (Don Flack).

Can Mag singled out one of the set's special features as being especially noteworthy:

Home Theater Forum described the picture quality of the DVD set as "very striking. Color is deeply saturated, and the image is usually very sharp, often appearing near-high definition in quality." The site also gave the audio quality of the season a positive review:

<dl><dt><dd><font color=yellow>The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is surprisingly active throughout each episode. Even if it’s just ambient chatter in the background or a beeping phone or machine, the rears contain almost a constant stream of activity, and car engines often pan across the rears or from back to front to impressive effect. Occasionally the rock soundtrack is too loud drowning out voices in the center channel, but generally speaking, the dialog is easily discerned.</font>

I agree wholeheartedly with this:

Real Movie News stated that "[t]he guest stars and the script often fail to meet the level of talent that the actors in the Forensics Team are capable of."
