Season 3 DVD Set Comes Up Trumps

CSI Files

Captain
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's third season is well worth picking up on DVD, according to online reviews.

"Like good wine, CSI just gets better with each new season," wrote Hock Guan Teh at DVD Town. "Stories are never recycled and every episode opens with a fascinating crime scene for our heroes to tackle." He said the DVDs had a "flawless" video transfer with "beautifully saturated colors and natural skin tone".

The extra features "don't seem to be as extensive or as interesting as the previous season's" according to the review. However, the episode commentaries by the cast and crew were singled out for praise. "All of them are interesting to listen to, as all the commentators are very knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the show. They share various tidbits of insider information that many of us, even the biggest fans, might never know."

In the complete review, CSI's third season was given a score of 9 out of 10 for video, audio and value for money. The extras were rated 7 out of 10.

Over at TVShowsOnDVD.com, Gord Lacey had plenty of good things to say about the DVD set's audio quality:

The audio for this release sounds superb. CSI makes strong use of ambient effects; subtle sounds that add to the quality of the production. If you want to be wowed, just listen to the opening couple of minutes of episode 21. These scenes make use of the rear speakers, the front main speakers and the sub - it sounds great!

Overall, Lacey said the package was well worth buying. "CSI is such a great show, and these DVDs are very nice. It pains me to watch the 4x3 broadcasts when I know these glorious DVDs will be released with nicer picture and sound." He gave the video and audio quality scores of 9 out of 10. The extra features were awarded a mark of 3 out of 10, based on the quantity, not the quality of extras. The full analysis can be found at this page.

CSI season three has a recommended retail price of $89.99, but is available from Amazon.com for $62.99, a 30% reduction. The DVD set can also ordered from Amazon.ca for 30% off.
